THE OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP 1979 (DVD 2004)
The production is a little poor, even taking into account the BBC pictures and legendary commentary from Peter Alliss and intro by Renton Laidlaw. However, I thought this was rescued by a great story unfolding which held my interest immensely, a round up of rounds 1 & 2, the form of round 3 and then in depth final round. It depicts a great maiden victory by Seve Ballesteros at Royal Lytham, but also the story of the players who lead and lost, who challenged and who played some spectacular shots.
Very entertaining stuff, I was suspicious that the commentary was added after the event rather than using the origial transcript which was a shame. Peter Alliss sounded rather high pitched too.
However, being some thirty years ago (!) this can be excused.
A great documentary to The Open, Seve's first victory, and of golf overall.
Well worth a watch! 6.5/10
