Only Fools and Horses is the much loved British Sitcom about the two Trotter brothers and their wheeling and dealing antics. Derrick 'Del Boy' Trotter dreams of being a millionaire and embarks on endless money making schemes which inevitably backfirst, whilst dragging his dopey brother Rodney 'Rodders' Trotter along with him.
Only Fools and Horses is one of my favourite sitcoms. This series has some great episodes including the introduction of Roy Slater. Below I will do a mini-review (with the ratings out of 5*s) of each episode and then give the DVD an over all rating.
HOMESICK - Rating ***
Lugging the shopping up twelve flights of stairs is too much for Grandad. The doctor suggests a move to a new council bungalow. Is it just a coincidence that Rodney is the new Chairman of the Housing Committe? This episode is funny but compared to the high standard set by other Only Fools episodes, this one just seems average.
HEALTHY COMPETITION - Rating ****
Rodney decides to go it alone leaving Trotters Independent Traders. By the end of the week he's already cornered the market in broken, used, lawn mower engines with Mickey Pearce as his Financial Director. Great episode with the highlight being Rodney's discovery on what the "assorted agricultural machinery" he has actually bought is.
FRIDAY THE 14TH - Rating ****
Del, Rodney, and Grandad head up to Cornwall for a spot of salmon fishing, Del's latest little earner. Unforunately for them there's a mad, salmon fisherman, killer, axeman on the loose. Great episode with lots of funny moments and a great twist at the end.
YESTERDAY NEVER COMES - Rating ****
Del's latest money making scheme is flogging a "Queen Ann" cabinet. As a result he meets the glamourous antique and art dealer, Miranda. But has she really been wooed or is she showing a little too much interest in Del Boy's late grandmother's painting? A good episode, with the highlight being Rodney's attempt to get a girl by following Del's bottom grabbing example.
MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU - Rating *****
This episode sees the introduction of Del's old school enemy Roy Slater. To make matters worse he's brandishing a police badge and hell bent on revenge. If that's not enough already, dopey Rodney invites Slater round to the flat to go and see his "old pal" Del. This episode is one of my favourites and includes many classic moments and a great ending.
WANTED - Rating ***
Watch Out! Rodney aka 'The Peckham Pouncer's' about. On a walk back from the Nags Head, Rodney bumps into Blossom, who begins claiming Rodney raped her. Unbeknownst to Rodney she's well known by the police for this sort of thing. I found this episode quite funny, but average when compared to other Only Fools and Horses classics.
WHO'S A PRETTY BOY THEN - Rating ****
Del's doing a favour for Denzil by redecorating his house, or is that Rodney and Grandad are redecorating his house. The instructions are simple; Leave the telly alone, Don't eat the Fruit, and Stay out of the kitchen. My favourite moment is when Del realises the truth about Coreen's canary.
THICKER THAN WATER - Rating ***
It's Christmas in Peckham and it's the season to be jolly until Del and Rodney's dad makes an appearance after 18 years. I found this episode it quite depressing, and not as good as others in the series.
Overall, the quality of the episodes is high. However, the DVD transfer could have been better and there are no Extra Features.
