One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest (DVD 1998)

I decided to purchase this DVD as I have heard raving reviews about it for years, but have never seen the movie. Saw the bargain priced DVD on EBay and thought it would be rude not to but it! All I can say is that it lived up to my expectations. The only let down was that I had heard so much about the electric shock treatment scene I was expecting it to be more skocking (pardon the pun). Jack Nicholson - what can I say about the man, the legend! He is fantastic as the phycopathic character that he plays and is very, very believable. After watching the film I was convinced that he may actually be insane!

PLOT: Upon arrival at a mental institution, a brash rebel rallies the patients together to take on the oppressive Nurse Ratched, a woman more a dictator than a nurse.

If you haven't seen this film then you must watch it. It does give an insight into what mental institutions were like but that is not the main point of the film. It is about free spirit and rebellion. Jack plays the role better than anyone else could. This film will make you laugh, angry, sad and many other emotions. Unlike todays films it has a sad ending when McMurphy (Jack) is finally beaten by the system but the effect he has had on the patients and staff remains. This is an all time great film and timeless.

Jack Nicholson is superb.
The mood of the film is very gripping.
Plot centred around a very disturbing and unpleasant matter yet film sheds a different, funny light on it.

I brought this film for part of my degree course work. Even though it is an old film I forgot how good it was. Even if you have seen it before it is well worth seeing again. Excellent!!

A Classic Movie

wow, been meaning to watch this film for years. i think jack nicholson is at his most sexiest in this role , it might be his slightly nutty johnny knoxville look in his eyes that did for me but the film was well worth watching an absolute classic . buy it !

Ebay have asked me on several occasions to review my puchase of 'ONE FLEW OVER THE COCKOO'S NEST' I ask, am I up to it? After all just about everyone who's anyone has written about this film and I have very little more to offer. This is a classic one of those films you have to watch before you die! I watched it when it first came out, at the time I worked as a psychiatric nurse and now I have brought this copy for my daughter (16 years old - what we call a Mother/daughter moment! The film offers serious subject matter, great acting, good story line and, in our house, an excuse to talk about then and now and I love the opportunity to talk about the good old days (1970's)- even Dad joins in with his questions, to which there are no answers - Dogs sat quietly through out so I assume they enjoyed it too. I dont know who reads these reveiws but whoever you are JUST WATCH THE FILM you wont forget it - you will carry the story with you forever - BEST WISHES

Somewhat dated american film showing what life was like in an American Psychistric ward.
Not too far removed from how things still are in a minority of the UK's mental health inpatient wards.

We saw this film years ago and it was fantastic. I bought this for my husband on dvd as it is a classic and one of Jack Nicholsons' best performances.

I thoroughly enjoyed this classic movie when it was released in the mid 70's. I decided to buy it for my son who is equally enjoying it and has watched it several times already..

as a fan of jack nickolson, this dvd is a must, one of his earlier films, and one of his best ! check out all the supporting actors, its unbelievable.

This is a classic film, bought as I wanted to see it again berfore going to the show very shortly. it is strong,moving and funny in places. A powerful film to watch.

This film was awsome...I recently spent some time on a Rehab ward so i can relate to this film. Although much more subtle the similarities in the way the "inmates" are treateted are, even today still present!!

Fascinating film which I am studying as part of a college course. Had me gribbed throughout. A very funny but sad storey. Highly recommended!

Jack Nicholson plays a good part. It is a very funny film, but a little sad.
I decided to buy it so that i've got it on dvd, and wanted my kids to see it.
A good insite into a mental hospital in the latter days.
