Written and recorded during a flurry of activity in 2005 that included what would become the Mars Volta's third album, AMPUTECHTURE, this solo outing by the group's guitarist and chief sonic architect, Omar A. Rodriguez-Lopez features his signature effects-heavy mood pieces. Aided by his Volta bandmates and other kindred spirits such as Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante, Rodriguez-Lopez melds the sensibilities of vintage Santana and King Crimson with tribal and free-jazz elements (see the dynamic "Boiling Death Request"), resulting in a bizarrely fascinating record.
