Olympus Stylus 850 SW Digital Camera

I was looking for a good quality compact digital camera for my teenage son, who managed to wreck his previous camera by dropping it onto something hard & cracking the screen. So this device which is shockproof, waterproof & freeze proof (within practicable limits, seems to be ideal & just to prove it he dropped it onto the floor within the first two days & low & behold - no damage. There's hope yet !!!

Bought this for my wife to use at school - she loves it. It's very nicely sized and easy to use - the fact it's bulletproof is a fantastic bonus. She has dropped it once onto a tarmac floor - not a scratch on it.
I'm particularly impressed with the macro function - I took a test picture of a lego man and the result was fantastic - we are now playing with animation using this camera on a tripod and macro.

I bought this camera for a youth organisation I work with, an organisation which involves outdoor activities, hillwalking etc. What I expected was a pretty robust but not earth shattering camera performance. How wrong was I?? With the Olympus name I should have known better!

Yes, this wee camera seems bulletproof but on top of that, everything about it just smacks of quality! before even switching it on, the quality is evident. It's got a nice solid metal body, the coloured section even feels like a good enamel and all the vulnerable "ports" are covered with quality hinged hatches with rubber seals.

When you've finished marvelling and actually switch it on, things get even better! First of all, the display screen is absolutely crystal clear and unbelievably vibrant - comes close to matching or even exceeding my high quality digital camera. Then, of course, you have to "play" with it... There are more features in this camera than you could shake a stick at! What's more, they're all valuable, useful and above all easily accessible features. There's none of this nonsense packing a piece of kit with a load of rubbish you'll never use. Everything on the Stylus 850 is relevant and of the highest quality.

I've now run test shots indoors, outdoors, macro, zoom and in as many environments as possible to test the capabilities. In every case, the results are earth shattering.

As you may have gathered, I can't praise this camera any higher. It's a cracker!! Buy it, get outdoors, get into any environment your body will take and believe me this baby will be with you every step of the way to record your experiences.

it's just great am an army officer and been using it during tranning i ave roll over it over and over it has falling into puds of muds and it's still the same as a brand new love it to death

I bought this camera primarily for it underwater capability, but ended up using it instead of my trusty Canon Ixus. It has a useful Scene mode for sunset, night portraits, sports, etc and video.

I found the Guide function useful too. You can reference the "in camera help" and once you have the answer you can select the relevant mode or function directly form the help screen

It is a reasonable size too so can be taken anywhere. Last thing is we had some heavy rain while on holiday and didn't need to worry about the camera getting wet.

I can definitely recommend it.

Got my new camera and it looked great, however first time i used it, it got full of water (suppose to be waterproof)and never worked again, i had bought it for my honeymoon and was very upset, i returned it immediatly asking for a replacement or refund as it was nothing i had done, i assumed they would do the honerable thing,But no according to them it has been sent away for repair and i will get it back in 6 to 8 weeks.So i ended up shelling out for waterproof disposables on honeymoon, while they had my money ,my camera, and no intention of refunding or relacing it, bottom line if it was me id shop else where.

I use this model for work, for which it is carried in a pocket, regularly switched on, photo taken and switched off. Internal lens movement is well designed, having gone through other compact cameras which protruding lens wore out after several months.
Haven't dropped it in water or to impact yet, but secure in the knowledge that if i did, it would till function.
