I found this camera easy to use. It had enough functions on it to make life easy and quick. Lovley shape that sits in you hand making picture taking a doddle. Not the most sleakist of cameras though, quite on the chunky side

  poor indoor pictures

ok i bought this camera because i thought it will take better pictures in low lights specially indoor ones for the kids parties than my powerfull Canon A640 but i was very wrong.the only camera i found that takes great pics indoors is the HP R717 digital camera.

i will have to sell both & buy another newer model HP even though my Canon A640 takes some serious quality outdoor pics (amazing) & the hardware is top built but indoors are more important for me because of the kids so HP will have to do.

  After firmware upgrade, top class!
Review created: 25/02/09

A very nice camera, good looking, you won't think it has a plastic body, as the look is very professional and stylish, which helps as it's much lighter to take photos with it compared to metal bodies cameras of its type. The resolution is very good, as good as the Olympus Stylus Mju 700/710 which hold the same 7.1 MP sensor, and the macro is just brilliant!, for very close shots indoor or outdoors. Battery life is a issue with this model, which could be seen as a total fault but if you download the last firmware upgrade from olympus webpage it solves the problem with the battery meter and definitely improves it, as well as using the recommended CRV3 rechargable battery it holds then a very good charge so you won't miss a shot when needed, but remmember never use AA alkaline batteries, only good rechargables ones as it needs lots of "fuel". Lots of features, more than the average olympus including fireworks, sunset, behing glass, auction, documents (almost as a scanner), and underwater modes with macro for the holiday fanatics (who isn't!). It takes a bit longer for certain shots according with the modes and features but in general a very good camera, worth the money for enthusiastics who just upgraded themselves from compacts. I always trust olympus for cameras, it's in general above the average market and offers a wide range of models perfect for everyone. Regards, Paola

  Olympus - sp310
Review created: 19/02/09

Compact, ergonomic camera with lots of functionality, fully manual mode, and customisable menus.
Produces very acceptable images including RAW option.
The small viewfinder can be useful in bright conditions.
The standard zoom range is limited to 3x but the lens/sensor mix shows low fringeing and motor is quiet.
There is a useful manual focus option with on screen focus distance indicator and magnified centre screen.
It is possible to attach wideangle/teleconvertor lenses or filters.
Battery 'life' is an issue is well documented - lithium rechargeables seem to be the solution.
Maxes out at ISO 400 showing with noticable increase in noise.
Processing of RAW files is ..slow.
Mostly very nice, versatile and very useable aside from AA battery problems.
