I already owned a large Olympus camera and wanted a smaller model to take on my fishing trips. The C220 was ideal for this purpose being compact, easy to use and had the usual olympus quality. I am very pleased with the photos and the fact that I can transfer them to my computer using the usb cable from my other camera. All in all a good purchase.

Tough compact and great quality photos

A great little camera. The sliding lens cover design is superb, keeps everything well protected even if you dont use a proper camera case. The zoom lens makes an odd noise when extending, but theyre all like that so don't worry! Picture quality is very good and 2 mega pixels is fine for pretty much everything despite what you might think!

A colleague had this model when digitals first became popular and I was always impressed by the quality of the snaps, despite at that stage still being a film snob. It's now pretty old (about 6/7 years) but is a quality piece of kit. The body is quite substantial which is why you see these still around when its flimsier counterparts have long since hit landfill and the lens quality is good. 2.1 megapixels is fine for 6x4 prints so don't start thinking you need 12 MP for snapshots! I bought one for the kids to have a play with as they and they love it and at around 15 - 20 quid you can't go wrong. About 8mb of memory does 25 or so shots - more than enough for the kids and teaches them to get rid of the rubbish shots!!

  Camera for Mum

I wanted a simple to use yet good quality digital camera for an older relative to use to take good print at home snaps. Olympus are renowned for good cameras with user friendly interface and this lightweight and compact camera fitted the bill. It was an older model which added to its simplicity and being second hand and relatively cheap it meant that if my relative did not take to it not a lot was lost. It came with a good sized memory card, and instruction booklet. Was very clean and well cared for, in fact the slide opening mechanism was a bit stiff as if it had hardly been used. It also does simple video which is an extra fun aspect for my relative to have fun with. It will fit easily into a pocket or handbag and photos from it can be printed either on ahome printer or shop machine. Very pleased with item.

  A good backup camera
Review created: 26/08/09

Although its only a 2 Mega pixels the camera takes a lovely photo and is very easy to use. I have taken a variety of photos with it and they have always turned out well with good exposure and colours. It is now living in my car as a backup camera for those times when Im out and want a photo of something without the risk of leaving an expensive item that someone could help themselves to.

Olympus C 220 Zoom - Good Value now!
Review created: 13/09/08

I bought this item recently for my other half to stop her from nicking mine all the time . The primary use that it was bought for is for taking pictures of items she is selling on Ebay. and for that it has to get a rating of excellent as it takes excellent pictures in varying lighting conditions and she has had a better success rate of selling her items since she started using it.
The camera in question is probably between 6 -7 years old as that was when I originally bought mine.(so in this household we now have 2 of them.
The original selling price in dixons was arround the £200-£220 and for that you got the camera, a box, usb cable, video cable, driver/application disk and an 8Mb smart media card, not forgetting about 3/4 inch thich of paperwork books manuals marketting blurb etc (all in about 7000 different languages that i have never looked at)All you want is the quickstart guide and dont really need that as it is so easy to use.
The camera itself is very easy to use but possibly a little on the slow side for the flash to recharge especially when batteries are starting to run low.
Battery life is not bad compared to some cameras I have used. in fact I will say it is quite good as we recently took a 2 week family holiday and did not need to change the 2 AA alkaline batteries on either camera once.the resolution is only about 2 megapixel which is what you now get on some of the better phones but i think this takes much better sharper pictures probably because of the optical zoom.
The software is old and compatable with older computers of the win98 era as well as 2k and xp and macs but the best way we have found to transfer images has got to be using a card reader as you can just browse and drag and drop as if it is a detachable drive.
On the downside the largest available smart media card I have seen available is 128MB which Is more than adequate and hold approx 300 standard quality pictures High quality is probably about half that
To sum up It was excellent value for money, seeing as I only paid arround £20 for the second hand unit including case (normally £10 when new), 64mb card usb lead and driver disk on ebay.
Go on grab yourself an easy to use bargain give it a try and if youre not happy put it back on Ebay and you should get your money back.
P.S. the only reason I am rating it only good and not excellent, is because there are better cameras out there with larger cards.

  Basic, simple and functional!
Review created: 30/08/08

This model is worth getting if you just want a simple PAS [point-and-shoot] camera which takes good / basic photos. The controls are, (on the surface) very easy to learn, and yet -if you wish- you can dig deeper, and get much more interesting results. [Sepia tones anyone?! ]

Some people don't want (or can't very easily learn) very intricate bits of kit, so this suits an 'entry level' or younger user very well. I had a C-220 ages ago, and recently bought one for a friend as well as my (slightly technophobic) mum! It seems robust enough to handle a bit of rough treatment, but I wouldn't recommend it for knocking nails into the wall. (Try a hammer?)
I shot many 100's of pix with my C-220 and got very good results, some were enlarged up to A4 size and looked just fine to me.
It has a 'double flash' type feature (which helps avoid red-eye in portraits) and can shoot 'macro' (close-up) shots to about 8" / 200mm, so is useful for Ebay pics.

I hardly ever use the LCD screens on the backs of digital cameras, (they eat batteries too quickly) the C-220 viewfinder is quite good enough for seeing what you are snapping. Olympus (as someone, somewhere mentions) don't make power drills. Or musical equipment, nor TVs or petrol-driven toasters! ;) No, they make clever things with *lenses*, and have earned a deservedly good reputation for doing exactly that.

If you are just starting out in the digital photography world, I'd recommend you get hold of this little fella, - or one very much like it. You won't be able to boast about yr new camera having, "5000 Megapixels" (or whatever) but you can soon be out and about taking decent photos, whilst the other folk with over-hyped, super-expensive models are still stuck at home working their way through the 300 page manual! Why, the C-220 is that simple, even the President of 'a certain western nation' could (possibly) learn to work it! ;)

Be sure to get at least a 64Mb memory card, ~ although these are no longer being made, they can be readily bought from sellers on the 'net. Prices vary a lot, so scout around till you find an inexpensive one.
I tend to mainly use the 'medium quality' setting on my cameras, this is a good general-purpose setting for most everyday uses, and you can then fit many more images on your memory card.
The Olympus company are wise enough to still have both the useful two-page 'Quick Start', as well as the more in-depth full PDF manual on their website, -which is useful if you've bought a 2nd-hand model without these handy guides. The original model came with a CD-rom and some photo manipulation software, but if you get a USB lead I believe you can plug the C-220 straight into an XP (or Vista?) computer, and download yr pics that way, without using the Olympus software app.

Oh, and: some modern gadgets are so small they could easily slip through a crack in the floorboards! This camera is large enough for those with big mitts (or arthritic / shaky septuagenarian hands) to be able to grip it properly.
*And a useful tip* ::: ALWAYS wear the nylon wrist strap around your wrist when taking pics! I know someone who lost her camera (filled with all her precious holiday shots) down an icy alpine ravine. ~ These cameras don't float very well in the sea either!

Anything I don't like about it?
Well, it makes lousy coffee and it's a bit rubbish at GPS navigation.
That apart, -it takes good snapshots! :D

Needed a digital camera but unfortunately I bought a dud that does not work correctly. Never been able to take a photo at all with it and cannot set it up to do simply that. Poor camera I am afraid.
Gain your own promotional tool here. Its brilliant.

  Bargain Buying The Easy Way
Review created: 03/02/08
by:

Hi I have been asked to make known my experience of the whole buying process around the purchase of this digital camera.
I bought this camera for my teenage son who is about to go on a school trip to Poland. I wanted a quality name which I knew would be easy to use and provide decent results even in the hands of an inexperienced photographer.
When I saw this one for sale from Olympus only having one owner and came complete with all its packaging and instructions I knew it would be the ideal choice. When I got it at the price I wanted, I was delighted. It is not a top end camera but more than adequate for the school trip, and neither my son or I will be gutted if the camera was lost or damaged.
The image of the seller in the listing was confirmed when two days later a well packaged and perfectly described camera arrived at our home. My son had the batteries in by the time I got home from work and had figured out most if not all the functions before time for bed. So all in all a perfect buy at a bargain price from another excellent trader.
I must admit that I have only ever had a couple of poor deals on ebay and have only had the displeasure of two unreasonable dealings. I shop and sell as often as I can on ebay, and if used wisely there is a very good chance that you too can have an enjoyable time like me, using what I beleive to be the leader in online shopping.
Good luck, and thank you to all my customers and traders past, present, and in the future .

I bought this for my kids to use. Its a plastic bodied digital compact with a fair range of controls (exposure modes, macro, flash settings etc.) Response times are reasonable apart from a slow flash recycle time and handling generally is ok apart from a very clumsy way of obtaining playback (and also for my rubbish eyesight the LCD has very small text!)
Results are good for this low a pixel count (2.1 m) and so it fits the bill ok. Mind it uses the now rare Smartmedia memory so think carefully before you buy. At £12.00 however it is a bargain!
