My All Time Favourite Film

Oliver is my all time favourite film, and probably the one I've watched more times than any other. I almost wore out my VHS copy and ordered the DVD version three weeks before I got my DVD player.
For those of you who haven't seen it, the film is based on Charles Dickens' famous novel 'Oliver Twist'. Having read the book I can say that certain liberties have been taken in shortening/changing the plot, but this in no way spoils the film. I tend to think of the book and film as two different stories. If the whole book had been used, the film would have run for hours and hours. It's quite a long film anyway. Basically it's the story of an orphan from the workhouse finding out who his mother really was and being reunited with his family. Along the way he meets Fagin (a likeable villain), the Artful Dodger, Nancy, the truly nasty Bill Sykes and their gang of thieves. Helped along by some fantastic songs (Food Glorious Food, Where is Love, Consider Yourself, Pick a Pocket or Two, I'd Do Anything, As Long as He Needs Me, Reviewing the Situation and several more) the film comes to a climax with the rousing 'Oom Pah Pah' which leads to a two violent deaths (I'm not saying whose - in case you haven't seen the film)and Oliver being reunited with the kindly Mr Brownlow.
One of the last truly great musicals, this is an entertaining film for all of the family, and I'm sure like me you'll want to watch it again, and again and again.... (actually I've almost convinced myself to go and watch it again now).
I'd give it 6 out of 5 if I could - it really is that good. And the best news is, you should be able to pick up a fairly cheap copy on E-Bay!
