Oceansize - Effloresce (CD 2003)

This is the first full length album by the 5 piece band from Manchester, and it is a work of genius. There is such great atmosphere, power and verity in this album it sounds like it took 5 years to make. Oceansize have an unparalelled ability to create a mood, and each song is incredibly carefully writte, with every second being carefully chosen and worked on. The songs are polymorphically interesting and moving, the lyrics are clever but accessable.

This album is perfect, especially for listeners who have knowlege of musical theory. The complex and changing time signatures and the overlaying of the three guitars work incredibly well, but are done in a way that its almost not noticable as the songs flow so well.

This is one of my favourite albums and I recommend it to anyone who likes atmospheric rock bands such as Tool, Amplifier, the Deftones or A Perfect Circle.
