Brought this for my son as he loves this film ... and he is a 21 year... so this film spreads across all ages and I love the music.

Having seen the beginning of it on the telly and finding it was too late to watch, I decided I needed to see it right through. I wasn't disappointed. It shows a whole different side to the stunning George Clooney and expands his talents into a new dimension. The music was good, the storyline was excellent, and it gave an insight into the south of the US during the depression. It was very funny but also poignant. It is a film which I would watch again on a cold winter night when there is nothing on the telly.

  A man of constant sorrow
Review created: 14/10/05

'Oh, Iiiii am a maaaaan.... oh of constant soooooorrow'

For the soundtrack alone this film would be worth buying - a foot-tapping selection of vintage and modern bluegrass numbers, including the irresistible 'Man of Constant Sorrow', which features in the climactic scene of the film.

But this isn't a CD review, so why should you buy this film? Well, it was one of the first signs that George Clooney had more depth than he'd had to display in ER or the lamentable The Peacemaker. He gives an endearing performance as an incorrigible ne'er-do-well on the run from a chain gang. He's also given sterling support by John Turturro and Tim Blake Nelson as his dimwitted but show-stealing sidekicks.

The trio lurch across the sepia-toned canvas of the Deep South of the 1930s, tangling with psychotic bank robbers, bent politicians, sultry sirens and ex-wives, pausing only to record unwittingly a hit single and escape the clutches of the Ku Klux Klan.

Shot through with the quirkiness, dark humour, rich characters and all-around originality that you'd expect from the Coen brothers, this film is a modern masterpiece that you'll want to watch again.

  Based on the Odyseey
Review created: 09/05/08

O Brother, Where Art Thou? is a comedy film made by the Coen Brothers. Released in 2000, the film is set in Mississippi during the Great Depression (1937).

The film is loosely based on the story of Homer’s Odyssey. The film stars George Clooney, John Turturro, Tim Blake Nelson, John Goodman, Holly Hunter, and Charles Durning. The American roots soundtrack won a Grammy for Album of the Year in 2001.

O Brother, Where Art Thou? tells the story of a trio of escaped convicts. Ulysses Everett McGill (George Clooney), known as Everett, Pete Hogwallop (John Turturro), and Delmar O’Donnel (Tim Blake Nelson) escape from a chain gang and set out to retrieve the $1.2 million in treasure that Everett claims to have stolen and buried before his incarceration.

  Funny and clever!
Review created: 11/02/08

I thought the film was quite odd in places, funny and still a very clever story unfolds, you never know whats going to happen next, light hearted, it could be watched with the family, as a couple or on your own film! I loved all the songs which add to the quirky story line, and although i have never enjoyed this sort of music before i found myself humming the tunes to myself and quoting funny sentences from the film to my friends, who think i'm completely mad, no wonder i enjoyed it so much, films like this remind you not to take life to seriously!!!!

"O Muse! Sing in me, and through me tell the story..."

"O Muse! Sing in me, and through me tell the story..."

The Coen brothers stamp their own unmistakable style on Homer's 'The Odyssey'. An excellent film that draws you in, Clooney in particular as Odysseus', or Everett in this case, is excellent. J...(read more)ohn Goodman is The Cyclops and the Sirens and Lotus Eaters are there too. This film is quirky and amusing yet also captures how things may have felt during the depression in the deep South. The music is excellent as is the visual effect, and the Coen brothers once again showcase their mastery of the use of colour. There is something in this film for everyone and I recommend it wholeheartedly.

  O Brother, Where Art Thou?

This is a really enjoyable film, the characters are well played, entertaining and amusing. The films music is catch and quite memorable - im not usually a great fan of country and western (south us state) type music but felt the songs complimented the films and sceens well.
This film is not a great in depth tale, it will not make you cry or spark in-depth debate, but it will give you some laughs and feet tapping moments - essentially a feel good movie.
