Still an amazing piece of kit

The GeForce 8800 GTX (based on nVidia's G80 core) has been superseeded by the G92 core featured on the 8800 GT and 8800 GTS 512 but still maintains an excellent level of performance against these two and even the best offerings for nVidia and AMD/ATi even though the technology is nearly one and a half years old!

Currently running two of these cards in SLI which gives mind-blowing performance and considering adding a third in for 3-way SLi; the advantage of of this graphics power is that you can run ultra-high resolutions on large screens but still maintain an excellent frame-rate.

The fact that new technology is around the corner is pushing these amazing cards towards the £200 mark which is a bargain! (the original 8800 GTX I bought in March 07 was £320 but I still believe it was money well spent).

Excellent product, highly recommended.

This is the most reliable, versatile and powerful GPU I have ever owned. Don't be fooled by the fact that it's a generic model, It is the same card and it's performance is incredible on all games I have played. It runs Crysis Everything on Very High DX10. The only problem is on very new games like Crysis/assassins Creed, it runs everything full, but as soon as you turn on anti-aliasing as well, the frame-rate drops in half and becomes unplayable, but if you can put the resolution up high enough then you don't need AA so much. All source games(CS, TF2 HL2) run fully spanked, everything including AA is on full.

Superb card, awesome awesome awesome. Do not settle for a GTS or a 8600, my bro has one and this THRASHES it hands down. Just a shame they discontinued it :`(

This Is Big graphic card ( wild & long ) & need for own use 150W but with clock on 1800MHZ and memory 768Mb and 384bit is give you Quality & Performance on every game . I play Americas army ( live game on line only ) and i chat with players , so when i hear about some graphic card and low FPS(FramePerSecond) i just laugh becose 8800GTX is give me on quality 60fps on Performance 88fps i also make screen shot with...... 1554fps !!! but overclocking is realy not needed. So im Recomending this card for all game and gamers.   Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTX, (768 MB) PCI Express Video Car

The GeForce 8800 GTX and its forward-looking capabilities are clearly the better deal.

We should note a couple of final thoughts here. The first is that with the GeForce 8800 GTX, Nvidia is also unveiling something called CUDA, which stands for Compute Unified Device Architecture. Because of the 8800's complexity, Nvidia is offering a framework for programmers to write software to use the GPU for intense number calculations. For gamers, Nvidia showed us how developers might use CUDA to really ramp up game physics calculations, but Nvidia is also offering this capability to the medical community and anyone else who might benefit from a combination of intense image-processing and number-crunching power. Nvidia is still getting the word out on CUDA, so there's no way to check it out right now. Nvidia also unveiled its new PureVideo HD software as a component of its new universal ForceWare driver, which debuts today and includes support for the GeForce 8800 cards. PureVideo HD will run on both the 8000-series and the older 7000-series GeForce cards, and it's designed to enhance HD video content coming from your PC. We have a sample system in to play with, and we're in the process of putting it through its paces. Look for a blog post on our impressions of PureVideo HD next week.

  Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTX

All round a great card if you want to have the benefit of DirectX 10 in your games(requires Vista), this card is power Hungary so make sure you have a minimum 650 watt PSU and 2 spare 6 pin power cables in your machine or this card will not work!!! also make sure that your PC tower has room to accommodate this card as it is very long, i have a Cyberpower NXZT case and i only just got it in.If you can i recommend you head over to www.nvidia.co.uk and download and install the latest drivers as well.

To get the best out of this card make sure you have a good CPU, i,e A Dual core Intel or equivalent AMD, or you will find your CPU will bottleneck the cards power.

Overall i rate this card a good solid 9.3 out of 10.

Never let me down, a pleasure owning it.
Review created: 17/11/08

Its time for me to cut the cord and say goodbye to my beloved 8800 GTX as im getting a new machine for Christmas but my time owning it is one i'll always remember. The 8800 GTX was the first flagship GPU i had ever owned, after a long break from gaming i wanted a machine that would play everything i chucked at it, and it did. When i bought the card it was brand new and only just released so it came with a hefty price tag but months down the road they can be aquired for 1/4 of the price i paid. I can assure anyone that is thinking of buying the 8800 GTX that it is a brilliant card and if you find a good one, can be clocked to keep up with the big boys of today. Recently ive been playing all the newest games on mine; Fallout 3, Farcry 2, Crysis, Red Alert 3 and not one has posed a problem, i have been able to sail through each, enjoying smooth gameplay and mind blowing graphics. What can i say, the 8800 GTX is the card to buy if your looking for something on a budjet, you will not be dissapointed.
