Top British comedy starring Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant, one a multimillionaire film star, the other a travel bookshop owner. The film explores the price that has to be payed to be famous and whether two people from such different backgrounds can sustain a relationship and fall in love.
Funniest lines go to Hugh's Welsh flatmate who is as uncouth as you can get.
Good soundtrack, great cast, predictable but so what !!!

The Main Feature: A delicious romantic comedy - one of the earliest and unquestionably one of the best. Hugh Grant plays the floppy-haired and quietly charming William Thacker who owns a Travel Bookstore in Notting Hill. Julia Roberts stars as, well, herself - the most famous film star in the world. One day, the two collide. What follows is a wonderfully soothing tale of romance; where divine comedy is sprinkled with poignant reflection, and where both leads and supporting actors are excellent, often beguiling. This is one of those rare films that's as good the first time you curl up with it on a Friday night, as it is when you're laughing (and crying) at it for the twenty-seventh time on a drizzly Sunday afternoon.
Highlights: A fabulous script that deftly weaves humour with occasional melancholy - no better showcased than the ill-fated guinea foul meal. William's Welsh lodger, Spike - "well chosen briefs I'd say; chicks love grey. Nice, firm buttocks."! Elvis Costello's heart-wrenching version of `She' that opens and closes the film. Julia Roberts' smile and eyes - enchanting.
Overall Package/Extras: Disappointingly few extras - and even those are text based: a travel guide to Notting Hill and Cast and Filmmakers Biographies, both of which are far better done by London Tourism websites and IMDB...
The one disk is packaged in a boring, standard plastic DVD case. There is a thin accompanying booklet which contains more brief - and unremarkable - biographies of the cast.
Verdict: Dazzling film. Dire DVD. Fortunately, the former is that good that it still makes this DVD fantastic value.

I've avoided this film since its release as generally films with as much hype as this one received normally turn out to be damp squibs.
I really really enjoyed this though and am so glad I gave it a go.
The husband was off to go play on the PS2 rather than sit through a chick flick but caught the first 10 hilarious minutes and was hooked and sat through it right to the end and thoroughly enjoyed it!
True, there are no real plot suprises, but this film is funny and sweet, and so well executed and acted - it really doesnt matter - give it a go, you wont be dissapointed!

Holywood Comes to Notting Hill
) I love the majesty of romance and boy meets girl. The glitzy show World of film is cut to the bare ribbon and raw flesh. The comedy is magnificent and the casting superb and very, very funny if a bit vulgar. Julia Roberts again shines through with her wide smile and warm thoughts. One to see again and again.

Hugh Grant with his usual love sick puppy fole and a stunning Julia Roberts is a great combination, then ending, well the plot in total is a bit predicatble but a lovely feel good film. A must for any chick flick collection.

Notting Hill is the best romance I have seen in a very long time. The small humourous lines make the viewer laugh through their tears. Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts both act very well, letting the viewer feel just what they are feeling.The idea is every person's dream; a normal man falls for the perfect lady. Julia Roberts, in her best role since Pretty Woman, is excellent at showing how somebody similar to "Anna" would feel how she does. The film outlines the difference between normal human and world superstar, but shows that they both can in fact get on and that people from one world can sometimes entwine with people from the other. 1010 *****

This is a great film, especially for all those fellas that can relate to women being able to twist your emotions ;-)

I live in notting hill and am engaged so of course I ahve to watch it over and bloody over. Some nice lines from stars like 'I'm just a little girl.' Slightly improbable but good for one reason.. .my fiance couldn't keep her hands off me the whole time....

I bought Nottinghill on DVD as I love this film; everytime is is shown on TV I am glued, so I decided to buy my own copy and, as always, it was great value for money. Whenever there is 'nothing on the telly' I can watch Nottinghill - great music too. If you enjoyed Love Actually and Bridget Jones (and Pride and Prejudice) and haven't seen Nottinghill, then you should. It's nearly 10 years old and still as fresh as the day it was made.

Excellent movie, I fell in love with it since I saw it for the first time in the cinema. I had a VHS before but after watching it soooooo many times it was in really poor stage so I decided to go for a DVD. That was a very good idea!! I keep watching this movie every time I feel too bad to do other things!! Highly recommended!!

Another one of my favourite films, ok i'm not that keen on Huge Grant but then he is playing the usual sterio typical type of smooth swarve upper class English man that the Americans expect all Britts to be so i will forgive him for that. I love the story line of Julia Roberts being torn between two lovers and all of the emotion that when with that not knowing which one she will choose and trying to decide which guy i would choose in her shoes. Really loves the flatmate that loved showing off to all of the press on the doorstep in his under pants scene.
