NOKIA 6310i - Simply the best!

"They don't make them like they used to" - and that is definitely the case when you review the Nokia 6310i. It is a genuinely excellent and perfect business phone. The design is flawless and features are rich and ideal for business and personal users. I've used several 6310i's and I'm always amazed at the battery life this phone offers even with continuous use throughout the day. I think the only complaint I have is with time the fascia's can become worn, you have to be fairly careful to keep them looking good. But with the heights of practicality this phone attains with tri-band, bluetooth, email, wap etc. and the fact that it works with BMW, Mercedes and the Nokia CARK-91 car kits it's a real shame Nokia don't make these anymore and it's a shame everything on the market looks like it's been built to target teenagers. If you want a good, reliable, solid phone, with all the useful functions then get one of these. They are an absolute bargain refurbished at around £80.00 or new if you can find one at around £110.00.

Features of the Nokia 6310i include:

WAP (over GPRS) plus HSCSD (High Speed Data)
email
Downloadable Java™ applications
Bluetooth™ wireless technology
Hi-resolution 6 line display
Predictive text messaging
35 ringtones plus 5 downloadable ringtones
Phonebook with 500 names
Picture messages
Voice activated dialling
Voice recorder
Data capability (built-in infra-red modem)
Calendar, 4 games
Size: 129 x 47 x 21 mm
Weight: 111g
Battery standby: 480 hours
Battery talktime: 3 - 6 hours
Vibration alert
Tri-band

There is also a large range of accessories for the 6310i including car kits and dual desktop chargers.

UPDATE 30/09/07

I would no longer advise buying a refurbished 6310i because the quality items are no longer available on or off ebay, unfortunately I think the wonderful 6310i is now moving into the realms of collectors item so if you can find a new or nearly new all genuine phone buy it now whatever the cost!

Have a look at this guide on refurbished 6310i (copy and paste to your browser):

http://reviews.ebay.co.uk/Thinking-about-buying-a-refurbished-Nokia-6310i_W0QQugidZ10000000004441540

For those of you who are lucky enough to have a good 6310i the accessories market still seems to be thriving which is good news.

Nokia 6310I - The Business Phone That Bounces!

I have always had a soft spot for this phone and have just bought another one off Ebay.

These phones last for years and are excellent for business and personal use!

They have the all important Bluetooth capability to connect to car kits!

and... they bounce. I have dropped this phone countless times and never done more than scratch it!

They don't make these any more but they can still be bought on Ebay!

Grab yourself one before they're all gone!

Nokia 6310i Mobile Phone - an exceptional business tool
Review created: 04/10/07
by:
6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

Quite honestly this is still one of the best phones around. Don't take my word for it; ask anyone who has had one; almost all wish they'd never replaced it. They are a classic - I have had them in business since they came out in about 2001 & they have travelled all over the world with me, never failing to find a local network long before I've got off the plane - and it synchronises well with my laptop.
The Nokia 6310i model has a better backlit screen versus the first generation 6310 - an improvement as it was previously hard to read in poor light. The 6310i also adds Triband, enabling it to operate worldwide. This feature, combined with the Java applications, famous user-friendliness and features like High Speed Data, voice dialling and voice recorder still make the Nokia 6310i an excellent business choice.
Nokia certainly hit the spot when they asked business customers what they wanted, all the connectivity of the day, along with a good memory capacity, exceptional battery life, coupled with all manner of data, appended in a very intuitive menu driven way. This phone has the best interface of any I've used, the menus load instantly, everything is fast and responsive. The Java capability means that you can download applications like personal assistants, travel and information tools just as easily as downloading ring tones.
The speaker is excellent & the ergonomics are spot on - most new phones are smaller and lighter but this means they are not as comfortable to use, are less robust, easier to lose, and in my experience just not up to the job in terms of battery performance. I keep looking to buy a new phone but every time fail to find a phone that does the essentials (battery life, call quality, bluetooth, durability etc) as well - and has a comfortable size and shape with the right amount of weight. It really is that good. OK it has no colour screen, no camera, no MMS; but who uses those anyway!
These phones are also generally very robust. Obviously there are issues if you drop them down a flight of stairs etc - as it is possible to break the internal aerial or the screen itself! Moreover you can pick up these repair parts off ebay! You can even have an external aerial to improve reception from say a basement building; but this phone generally still has reception on many parts of the London Underground!
Moreover there remains good support on the Nokia website www.nokia.co.uk/A4222194. The only dissapointment is that Nokia has so far failed to provide an improvement on this in over 5 years - its all just gimmicks. The number of new models I have rejected because the battery life is tragic, the flip phone breaks, the buttons are too small even for a midget, the reception is non existent or the hands free car kit is abysmal etc is extraordinary. Moreover I know a great number of people in global business who are reverting to this phone because they are fed up with lack of reliability and poor battery life. At home or abroad this is the phone to have; the Li-Polymer battery lasts forever - I have a double battery pack which allows me to be without charge for weeks at a time.
Personally unless you are into fashion items, I would forget the rest as these phones offer exceptional value for money. If you are serious about business, rather than gimmicks such as wobbly cameras (which are poor versus a digital camera) or needlessly enjoy watching video on a squint size screen, then quite simply this is THE phone for you!

  Nokia 6310i

Don't buy this phone if you are a normal member of society. It doesn't take photos, you can't listen to your music on it - unless the standard ringtones can be called music, you can't surf the net, you can't take fascinating video footage of your hamster shredding another copy of the Observer, you can't send emails, and lastly, it absolutely and most definitely doesn't look cool.

What the Nokia 6310i does do however, is make and receive phone calls. And it does that very well. After all, it's a PHONE. (I've got a brilliant SLR camera to take photos, I have a fantastic hi-fi to listen to music and I use twin digital flat screen 19" monitors to send and receive email and surf the web on the fastest broadband line available.)

The battery life on the Nokia 6310i is amazing - it just lasts and lasts and lasts. I've got big hands and trying to use the little tiny keys on the new generation "phones" often I often mis-dial a number. By contrast, you can use one thumb to dial a number with the 6310i.

I have just managed to get hold of my 5th phone.

One bit of advice - try and steer away from the AS NEW!!! advertised, refurbished phones. I have had two of them and they are rubbish, because they are not as reliable as a new, factory-supplied phone. Try and buy a genuine, unmolested used phone off Ebay, which may have a couple of scratches on it, but will ultimately be more reliable.

Here endeth the lesson!!

Probably the greatest Nokia ever made - the Nokia 6310i
Review created: 05/09/07
3 of 4 people found this review helpful.

The Nokia 6310i was built as a business phone. Its purpose was to cater for those working people who just wanted a good call quality mobile. In today's phone market, many manufacturers are focused on mega pixel cameras, mp3 players and internet browsing. What they have forgotten is that a phone, for many people, remains to be just a phone.

The Nokia 6310i, in my opinion, is probably the greatest of all Nokia handsets. I have had numerous Nokia handsets and many of them had various problems, namely that they crashed a lot (8210) or dropped signal too frequently (8310). I have never had a problem with a 6310i. The call quality is sharp and the size is not too bad. In its heyday, it featured the Bluetooth capability, still making it a very useful phone to have today. This quality and character is known by many mobile users and is reflected in the market price that you would expect to pay for one today. Even second hand prices are high for such an older model.

In truth, the reason why I have not rated this phone as excellent is simply because of the lack of features it has. In its time, it was hailed as the cutting edge of technology. Unfortunately, this is no longer the case as today's mobile market has advanced so much that even my Samsung D900 (under a year old) is three models out of date!

However, having said all that, I still own two 6310i handsets. One lives in my car, the other is my work mobile and I would not change this for any newer handset. It is reliable, easy to use and the battery life on it is superb. It also does not take long to charge making it very handy when at a conference or out on a day of meetings. It is also compatible with Bluetooth laptops.

It may not be the best looking Nokia, but pay homage to the world’s greatest Nokia handset - the 6310i.

Excellent, sturdy and easy to use phone

This phone is only my second mobile phone and it is easy to use, even without instructions. The battery holds power for ages - I am only charging it once a week or so. The screen is easy to see and the keys are slightly raised and seperate from each other which makes it easy to text. The fact that it has a volume button on the outside of the phone is good too as you can alter the volume if you are in a place where it is difficult to hear.
I do not know much about mobile phones but I do find the Nokia 6310i an excellent phone.

  Nokia 6310i no frills reliability
Review created: 02/08/07
by:
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I've not had many phones in my time, let's get that straight. I've had a couple of cheap Siemens phones and, currently, Some Vodafone PDA I can stick to my ear and, if I'm in luck and have reception, actually phone someone.
The latter is a phone from work and before that they'd given me a 6310i for a couple of years.
The 6310i was, quite simply, a no-frills phone that was not only reliable but had a battery with the half-life of Radium. I liked the Siemens phones for their simplicity but the Nokia wins hands down every time, especially in the battery department.
When I started my own venture this year I didn't have to look far and went straight for a 6310i - I may need Bluetooth one day, I may even fit a hands free kit to the car (though the old Nokia ones ARE a little dated now).
Anyway, a great phone that was quite unecessary for Nokia to stop making. Thank goodness there are plenty still being traded on Ebay.

I simply love this supersonic 6310i mobile phone makes a fantastic buisness phone very easy to text with excellent keypad layout design which is superb for people like me with fat clumsy finger tips the bigger fonts are also bonus for short sighted people like me as i can read the display with great ease, and you don,t have to squint your eyes i,am using one at present the battery life is incredible long lasts for a over a week not like these modern small new phone,s which only lasts a few hours the bluetooth feature is a great asset which was a keen selling point also triband which can be used in any country in the world also a great bonus the menu is user friendly like its white background display light i like the black and gold choice of colours is far the best, the silver ones scuff easily, the software facility is another plus the 6310i is a much after sought mobile phone and still vey admired by thousands of people come on now Nokia please reproduce them again i,am sure they would sell really well. I,assure this one will go down in the history books as being a marvellous commodity.

This has to be the best cellphone I ever owned. A few years old now, it's not a tiny phone but nor is it too big.
Simple to operate. Buttons for the fattest of fingers. A monochrome but clear and simple display. No camera, but do you really need that in a phone? It has bluetooth and a battery that lasts for ages. Oh and it will do sms if you really need a fancy extra function.

Nokia 6310i The best Nokia ever!
Review created: 09/04/09
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

The reason I bought this phone is the fact it does just about everything i need it to do.
Ok so its a bit dated now but it has some great features like the battery seems to last forever, it fits the old car kit fitted to a lot of cars, its loud and clear, very simple to use and has to be one of the toughest phones i have ever had, Iam i the scrap business and the phone gets dropped, thrown on the dash of my truck, dirty, wet etc etc and still performs as if it was new.
I recently got a new Nokia N96 as an upgrade and although an awesome phone that does everything I wouldnt trade it for a 6310i to use everyday, it wouldnt last a day!

I bought this phone to suit my old Nokia CARK91 hands-free car kit as my old Nokia 5110 would not support the newer technology of T mobile. The 6310i is quoted as the "best ever" business phone and I have found nothing to disagree with in this. It has "useful" features not "gimmicks" It has keys that an average adult can use rather than a child. It has Bluetooth which I have yet to explore and a massive memory for all the telephone numbers you could ever wish to store. The seller described it perfectly as a 'timeless classic' which is what it is. It is robust and won't break into a thousand pieces when I drop it like a more modern phone and I would recommend it to anybody. I never thought I would replace my old 5110, which I had for over 10 years, but this is certainly its equal. A good old fashioned phone for using not posing!!!

It was a very common to be found fitted with hands free in a lot of company vehicles, and this is why i wanted one, i bought an ex aa vehicle which had all the wiring and cradle just needing a nokia 6310 to go in it, and all nokias are user friendly and what i call " idiot proof " ( yes i am an idiot- LOL ) this phone is one of the best old school phones, and it is tri band....!
