The 6280, good, bad and the ugly?

I got my 6280, here on eBay, after I grew to love my aunties 6270. After a little searching around on the net I discovered that the 6280 was much like the 6270, just better. So I bought it for £40.
Upon recieving it, everything about it looked great. I liked the size, albeit slightly big, and the phone itself simply blew my mind. I could do everything I wanted with it. Email, Infrared, Bluetooth, Video Call ... everything. But that isn't to say the phone is perfect. Oh no.
If you are thinking about getting a 6280, just check with the seller about this little something first. The firmware. My phone was shipped with version 3.23 on it, and it caused me no end of problems. It kept crashing, over and over again. Becoming even more frequent. Thank God that Nokia decided to place Club Support about the country, and that my phone was still under their 3-5 year warranty plan. So I took it to them and had it updated to v5.92. I have hardly had any problems since. And as a bonus, the graphics were updated and a few little applications added. Nevertheless the fact that I had to do this was time-consuming and money wasting. (my nearest support was over 40 miles away). So when you decide to buy your 6280 just check with the seller what firmware it has. You can do this by getting them to enter *#0000# on the keypad. If it has v5.92 then thats great, it's the latest. If not, beware you may have problems!
Some other little things annoy me a bit with the phone. I occasionally get a "Sim not inserted" warning, yet I can still call and text as usual? Another one is the slider. It seems a little loose. However, Nokia swear that this was intentional. It doesn't bother me that much to be honest. And the last thing is that you can't use the front camera for general use. It can only be used during a video call, which I personally think is a waste. Some say the phone is ugly in it's "blockyness" and weight, however I strongly disagree. I love the design of the phone, even the weight. It feels solid, despite the over-plastic fascia, and good to hold.
The 6288 is exactly the same phone, only fixing a few of these problems (or so they say). The design is slightly more sleek, but I still prefer the 6280. It has had the slider issue fixed, and the firmware issues. In fact, you can update the firmware yourself for the 6288 via Nokia's site. Shame you can't do it for the 6280. It would solve EVERYONES problem with it in an instant.
But listen to me, slagging off this phone! Don't let these little bugs put you off buying this truly great phone. I have loved it from the day I got it and still do. Despite it's flaws, it is one of the best phones I have had to date.
(I have given it a 4 out of 5 because it is slightly flawed and not perfect, but still a great phone)
