  Very reliable phone

I have had this phone for over 17 months and have never had a problem with it and its still running very good. Even though it’s a 1 mega-pixel camera it’s out-dated by today’s standards. However I use this as a 2nd phone. Gives me good battery life average 3-4days making/receiving texts and calls. Very good size and doesn’t weigh you down in the pockets. Still Nokia has the best call quality when it comes to the ear-piece and loud-speaker. Also being very popular model there’s loads of spare parts/accessories if you need to find any especially if you want to change the facia and make the phone look in a different colour. However I still prefer the silver colour.

  Nokia 6230i - great phone

I have always had Nokia phones, so when I saw this phone I thought it was the ideal phone for me and I was right I have had the phone for over 16months and it still works great. Although the camera is only 1 megapixel, I have printed out many photos and they are of good quality. All in all it is a good value phone for the money.

One of nokia's most popular and still sought after mobile phones.Very versatile in the fact it can do what most present phones can do and offers a good 1.3 megaoixel camera,bluetooth,mp3 and radio. It has many other features most of us don't use but it is also java for games and you can browse the web and send and recieve emails.Very small in comparison to most phones and is a very good carphone replacing the likes of the ever popular nokia 6310i.
Overall a very versatile phone,if you manage to get one of these buy it and even when you replace it it is ideal as a spare as it will never let you down, plus the battery is good for around 10 days,10/10 from me,thanks.

Nokia 6230i - excellent "workhorse" mobile phone
Review created: 23/02/08

5 of 6 people found this review helpful.

The 6230i isn't necessarily a current phone, in fact it's been of the shelf for a few years now in the stores. However, the Nokia 6230i still proves to be a popular work-horse product thats simply reliable, durable and to be honest a better product that some current models.
I upgraded (!) to a Nokia 6300, which while being a pretty good phone in it's class, doesn't match the efficiency of the 6230i - so in fact I've gone back to using a 6230i as it's a superior product. Good resolution screen, decent 1.3 camera, mp3 playback and tons of useful applications, plus the usual easy to navigate Nokia menu structure make this a phone to be reckoned with. Good battery power consumption (unlike to 6300) plus bluetooth connectivity that doesn't let you down either (again, unlike the 6300). Nokia made a mistake in opting for a sub-micro battery charging socket on their current range of phones, the 6230i being one of the last 'good' phones that still has the harder wearing larger connection.
Those interested, the Nokia CARK-126 full car-kit are still available for the 6230i and are selling very cheap indeed - ideal if you're on the road much. Plus good range of other accessories, batteries etc., remain available for this product.
If you have a 6230i and thinking of upgrading, don't sell your old phone until you're completely happy with the replacement, because quite simply I'd guess you'll be disappointed after a while and wish you're 6230i was back and running.
A great phone.

When is a little phone a big phone?
Review created: 03/03/08

When is a little phone a big phone?
Answer - The phone must disappear inconspicuously into the pocket, allowing one to forget that it is actually there. An exact size, shape and weight will create this illusion. The only time you should be aware of its presence is when it rings. Then, the little demon must allow you to make full use of the item's original reason for its existence, yes that of a phone, with good sound quality and loud enough to be heard even in a noisy environment. As a phone, it is required to proficiently make and receive calls with ease and any other add-ons are a bonus. If you don’t need all the high tech gismo, then the Nokia 6230i does all this and much more at an affordable price with reliability. One of the best and nifty phones I have ever owned and boy have I gone through some phones.

Good phone - worth the money

I really like this phone as it has a camera which is an upgrade for me. It is extremely easy to use and the shortcut buttons are useful and quick i.e. switching on the camera quickly can be done via a shortcut button. It is perfect for my needs.
The games on there are good, particularly if you are a 'Deal or No Deal' fan, as this is on there and is quite addictive!
The only criticism I can make is that it has a black fascia which easily gets scratched and there are bits of silver poking through the black keys which makes it look a bit worn. If I was buying another I would go for the silver model for that reason.
Overall, I am delighted with it and really pleased that I saved a lot of money by buying it on Ebay. I am on Pay As You Go and swapping my simcard was easy peasy too.

This phone is basically an excellent phone and has a lot of great features, but nothing Nokia have made is perfect and this phone is no exception. The biggest grumble for me is the appaling battery life. If you play around with the features such as the camera, video recorder and MP3 player, the battery will die on you in a day, and if you mearly use it for calls and texting, it'll still be dead in two days. One of the negative points I have about the MP3 player is the fact you can't add or remove songs from the playlist on the phone itself. This has to be done on a PC. Another poor point is that while the camera is excellent for a mobile, let alone one this size, I have seen better quality video recording on phones much older than this. I've also had a few occations when the phone has "crashed", usually while in the middle of making a text message, to the point where only removing the battery will turn it off. There are a few very, very minor niggles I have too such as no "Delete all messages" option on the text messaging options (You have to delete the folders one by one) and no "Over right old messages" option either, which means a lot more tiresome manual message deleting. However. Putting these points aside, I love the fact it has an MP3 player, the screen is amazingly sharp, as good as a mini PC monitor, you can use removable data storage in it, which for me is a real bonus as I like to move around files that I can use on a portable device, it (so far) has been able to display any web page I've been to since it has XHTML, the internal speaker is excellent quality considering the size, Nokia have finally got the polyphonic ringtones sounding nice. (Anyone with an earlier polyphonic model such as the 7210, 7250 will know what I mean). And on a silly note, you can finally put seconds into the countdown timer, not just minutes and hours.. :-P

The 6230i Is Yet Another Classic Mobile Phone From Nokia. I Think That It’s A Great, Easy To Use Phone With Lots Of Features. I Have Personally Owned One From New And It Has Never Let Me Down. It Has Got Many Great Features Such As A 1.3 Megapixel Camera, Video, Mp3 Player, Bluetooth And Lots More. It Has Kept Its Value Very Well Over The Years. It Looks Great And It Would Suit Anyone, Such As A Businessman Or A Teenager. It Is An Improvement From Its Younger Brother, The Nokia 6230. I Would Defiantly Recommend Anyone To Buy A Nokia 6230i.

A brilliant phone to fit my car
Review created: 05/12/07
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Want to benefit from a modern cell-phone with many up-to-date features? I bought a used Nokia 6230i on eBay, to do just that.

For the paranoid, my old year-2000 Motorola triband cell-phone may be good for avoiding government surveillance, not having the "benefit" of the modern microchip which instantly tells where it is when asked, it can only be tracked to a single cell instead of to a few metres.

However, it was hard to read with its dull small screen and my fading eyesight, difficult to text with no predictive assistance, unintuitive with its menus, and far too bulky even to attach to my jogging shorts, I have to carry it with me. Did I mention, that it is desperately UGLY, too? Oh, and that it just went "brrr, brrr" when called, the best of its sad choice of ringtones, with no personal option?

My SIM contract is "Pay as you Went", no monthly fee whatever, and they bill me in arrears only for calls actually made, which is not many - my average monthly bill is trivial unless I go overseas and text furiously! I needed a phone which could be unlocked if it was on the "wrong" network.

So you can guess what I liked about this Nokia 6230i replacement! Small, cute, easy-to-read bright screen, easy texting, obvious menus with picture assistance. it works well here and abroad, triband for USA as well as Europe of course. There is a nice bit of Beethoven to alert me to callers, or any downloaded ring-tone I care for. Being Nokia, of course you can unlock it easily. Just a code number to enter, easily found free on the web. Of course it also has a camera, a memory for digital files, connection to the web via GPRS -

- and : Bluetooth.

Why did I choose the Nokia 6230i? Herein lies a story: I had bought a car with Bluetooth!

Like many cars these days, my December 2004 vehicle came fitted with Bluetooth to allow instant wirefree connection to a cellphone inside the saloon, with a switch or two already fitted with which to operate it. The Nokia 6230i is clearly one of the mainstream phones that BMW (and I think Mercedes and other car-makers too) have provisioned-for, they obviously can't do cradles for every phone ever built. They provide an electronic cradle for the 6230i to easily slip into and be directly connected, both to my car's charging electricity and the car's external phone antenna.

Get in the car, slip the phone in its cradle, click it down, drive off. That's all there is to it, the phone is fully functional immediately. Actually, it is fully functional the moment it is inside the saloon, even in your pocket still without being in its cradle, as the bluetooth connection is wirefree - just that you are stuck with the phone's aerial inside the metal car, which is not as good as the external antenna, and the battery doesn't charge.

Get to the carpark, one push-to-release button lifts the phone from its cradle, battery fully charged, and it even slips inside my jogging shorts being so light and small.

I bought the used phone on eBay, there are several Nokia 6230i phones - and others - for sale at any one time.

I bought the BMW cradle on eBay too, the makers charge £60 for a new one, my new one cost £15 on eBay

So: a nice cell-phone with loads of modern features, fits my car - I'm a very satisfied Nokia 6230i user. If necessary, I'll remember the only disadvantage of modern cell-phones, and I'll turn it off to avoid surveillance of my exact location by the government!

  The marvellous 6230i
Review created: 16/11/07(updated 16/11/07)

2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

By the time you read this article, you will already be wise as to what this telephone can do.You will know what fetures it has etc. I use a lot of the features that come with the 6230i and am becoming ever more dependant on it.
The 6230i is one of those little things in life that you can rely on.

I have owned one for over two years and used it a lot.My phone has 312 hours of calls on it, still on the original battery, still giving excellent service.

I have dropped my phone on the floor a few times & it even flew off the roof of my car, at 15mph two weeks ago! I have found this model to be a very wise choice of telephone. It is packed with features, very reliable and very robust. It will be difficult to replace with something better, when the time comes,I'm expecting to be using mine for a good while yet.

It's not what I would call a cheap telephone, but it is good value for money,if you have use for most of the features.

Excellent phone that's easy to use
Review created: 03/10/07(updated 03/10/07)
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I have had several mobile phones from different manufacturers but I prefer Nokia because I find them easier to use and robust. I selected the 6230i because it is relatively small, had a reasonable camera, is compatible with Outlook and is Bluetooth enabled which works admirably wilh my Nokia in car hands free device. My only criticism is that the keys wear with use (the silver coating comes off) but I have resolved this by fitting a Krussel glove that also protects the keypad.
