Great features - Doubts over build quality

I needed to replace my 2 year old 6233 - Which had been a fantastic phone. Very well made but now lacking features. I chose the 6220 classic as I prefer the candy bar format and after trying it out as a friend has one I was happy that my pretty big fingers can use the relatively small keypad.
PLUS POINTS:
The internet facility is fantastic. Offers page previews when going back and forward. So far on orange, have yet to lose signal at all. Either phone or 3G.
The sat nav is great as an emergency sat nav, but for day to day use, get a Tom Tom etc. Has helped out though when taxi drivers seem to "get lost".
Phone calls are as you expect, clear and has a few features that make life easier. Has the ability to call out the name of the person calling in-between rings if in your phone book, so it tells you the missus is calling etc. Never tire of that as if you have bluetooth in the car as I have, and the phones in your pocket you don't need to see the screen to see if you want to take the call or not.
Texts are standard nokia affair, which is about the best I've used, but also lets you keep typing instead of just stopping when you reach a certain amount of characters and sends multiple texts.
The speaker is very good quality. Had stereo in the 6233, but the sound is just as clear and loud . Handsfree works very well if busy at home and need both hands.
Has the ability to read out text messages, so can let everyone hear a text or if you just want to be lazy. Can be very amusing.
5 mega pixel camera is absolutely brilliant. Complete with xenon flash. Easy to download onto your computer and really clear images for a phone. So easy to use and the lens has a slide cover that when dis-engaged, automatically starts the camera so you don't have to turn the keypad lock off to use, just slide open the cover and your ready to shoot! You even slightly hold the button down and the camera works out the best way to take the picture and after about a second the box lines on the screen turn green to tell you it's at it's optimum setting. Auto flash and red eye elimination features as well. Never take my digital camera out now anymore, even for work.
Very clear high resolution screen makes the small icons easy to read.
You can download themes from the internet and install on the phone really easy to customize your phone simply. Have a excellent blue/black which I downloaded for free. There really is a theme for everyone, I have about 15 on the phone just in case I get bored.
Comes with loads of memory on the SD card. Still no way near full and you can increase the memory with a new SD card.
Battery life is about 5 days with moderate use, that is with bluetooth on all the time, using the camera and internet searching quite regularly.
DOWN POINTS:
The case is very flimsy. The silver chassis creaks if pressed especially around the memory card slot. Does make you worry that it'll fly apart if seriously dropped from height, don't want to test that theory mind! My works 6300 in stainless steel is rock hard in comparison.
The screen goes to saver mode very quickly. As it's high resolution screen it needs to to get the battery life.
Keys are very small and close, a few extra mm in size would have been wiser.
The pad is also too near the bottom of the phone.
With such a small keypad the key lock can take some time to obtain.

Overall, packed phone that has great customizing features, does everything well but build is sadly lacking.Worry that it won't last like the 6233.

  6220 classic review
Review created: 21/01/09

the 6220 classic is one of the smallest smartphones nokia have made to date

it is jammed with features for a handset this size including , gps , bluetooth , 5mp camera with xenon flash , symbian os feature pack 2 (same as the n96), mp3 player , 3g connection , video calling , radio ,

as the handset is made mostly of plastic not only is it small but its incredibly light as well

the only gripe with this is the handset actually feels a little cheaper then what it is and what its capable of you could call it a sleeper if you like as it looks a bit cheap but is a incredible powerhouse

the 6220 classic has an incredible 128mb or ram and a steady and pleasing 72mb or ram at boot so you can multi task away and not worry about low memory warnings

the processor is also pretty decent and with feature pack 2 that adds to a stable and fast device to use

the gps locks on very fast when using agps and the camera takes amazing pictures in the night or day , seriously i used this phone in a nightclub and the shots were very good with the xenon flash

the mp3 player is very good indeed and when coupled with a 3.5mm adapter and a decent set of headphone sit could give many mp3 players a run for their money

i have a 16gb micro sd card in mine and the phone handles that very well indeed it is full up and their is no slowdown at all when browsing through the phone

there are a few niggling things about the phone which would include the 2.5mm headphone socket , this was probs to keep the size down but you will need a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter to use most headphones and the ones nokia supply are rubbish ,

theres no wifi which is allways handy to have allthough 3g speeds are very fast there often not free like wifi ,

the screen is a little small but is very bright and easy to see allthough they could have fitted a .2 of an inch more in there

the handset does feel plasticy which isnt great and there are a few creaks when handled

the battery is a little small 900mah but the handset does fit the n82 battery which is 1050mah so that will increase life a bit :-)

overall id say that the 6220 classic was a great handset with great features ata great price , it pretty much does everything the n series handsets do bar wifi and it even has a 5mp camera with xenon flash which takes great pictures , the plastic feel might be a bit much for some people and the 2.5mm headphone socket may deter people but there is no denying that for this price the 6220 classic is an amazing handset

i love the way its so small but does nearly everything the much bigger n95 can do , it feels nice in the hand and when i look at it iam amazed at how nokia fitted so much technolagy into a small package , great achievement

thanks for reading my review , please exscuse the spelling and why not check out some off my others

thanks again

I have used Nokia phones for the last 14 years, nothing comes close in my opinion, easy menu access and useage, very good phones.
I have used the 6220 classic for over a year now and have recently(July 09) tried to find a suitable ugrade for it. I have tried over the last month 4 of Nokias latest phones and returned them all, the 6220 classic in my opinion is the best phone they have produced for anyone wanting a high spec calls and text mobile with fantastic battery and clarityof calls.
Recommend to all, 11/10!

  Nokia 6220............. What a phone!!

I have had my new 6220 classic for little over a month now and OMG.... I am well impressed with it. Talk about best things in small packages!! lol
Anyway... the array of features it has is impressive it simply has everything the N95 has ,the 5MP camera, all the applications,, maps etc, the speaker is brill and loud. I bought the phone brand new for £110 and compared to the N95 there is not much in it at ALL. If i was to point out a few cons the only real honest comment would be the slight plasticky feel of the keypad and the closeness of the navi keys...... but being a bloke with big hands doesn't help but its a sacrifice i will live with..... An overall score out of 10 for this wonderful phone.......... is .............. 9.5% with which i am proud to give.

Nokia 6220 Classic - full specification yet easy
Review created: 26/04/09
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

All the features are packaged for easy access, easy use and easy setup.
The GPS works for Nokia maps (which you can download) and for Google Maps.
The camera is fabulous - autofocus, zoom, flash, 5MB resolution. The image quality for stills and video are fantastic.
The music functions are easy and the speaker very good.
Menu navigation is easy and quick to tune to your own demands.
File management is less easy than the simplier 3220 Classic - which is a surprise, but not significant.
The only item that is missing from this great Nokia. It is NOT wifi - which is a shame.

Great fone.. simple and easy to use great camera...there plenty that you can do with this phone, such as installing your own applications and also the maps application is a very useful tool as it is!! the camera is very good when taking photos but and so is the video although the quality is slightly less than the n95. all over the its a great phone you learn to love it! .. one minor point is the cheap build of the phone you kinda feel as if you could break it easily even though it is tough.. so if you can see past that and you love nokias then this is great!

  Nokia 6220 Classis
Review created: 06/02/09

1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I had nine phones during 2008 - 4 Nokia 6500 slides - a software nightmare - 3 6500 classics - a lovely phone to look at but absolutely crap signal and 2 Samsung U600's - not a bad phone but when you have always had Nokia's its hard to change to different system. My main concern was signal - even though I have two orange masts not far from me I struggled with all of the above phones in my house.
I know someone who has a 6220 classic and he was impressed with it and when I tried it I thought it was good.
I managed to get Orange to send me a brand new Samsung in a box so I sold that on Ebay and bought a new 6220 also on Ebay - Boy was I pleased - this is the phone I have been waiting for - it looks brilliant, the signal is awesome - it is easy to use and the camera is thumpingly brilliant! Its got everyhing I need in a compact package.
If you want a Nokia that has an excellent signal and features, looks awesome and isn't the size of a brick then this is the phone for you.

I would go as far as to say that this is the best phone that I have ever had or tried to date.

  my friend's new phone
Review created: 14/01/09

I recently bought the Nokia 6220C on behalf of a friend who wanted to upgrade from his Nokia N73 without going to another contract. It was cheaper to buy it outright and even cheaper to buy a new one on ebay. He found a real bargain on a brand new 6220 that was an unwanted upgrade. He loves the compactness and the various new features as well as the 5mp camera as opposed to the 3.2mp on the N73. The only complaint that he has is that it doesn't feel as substantial as the N73 which was made in Finland and the 6220 was made in an asian country. He says it just feels like a plastic toy. I agree with this as I bought his N73 at a great price and it does have a more substantial feel to it. If that is it's only drawback, the 6220 user has nothing to worry about as the operation, navigation and the camera is EXCELLENT

  Nokia 6220 Nav
Review created: 02/01/09
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

The Nokia 6220 I have found to be an easy to use unit, which is pretty much the same as any Nokia. I considered the N96 and the N82 before deciding on this phone, and I do not regret my decision. The phone does not seem to mark easily, and is light in weight. It has every feature I was looking for in my new phone, whilst remaining fairly plain in appearance. This phone has the 5mp camera, but is not as bulky as the N96, and the keys are easier to use than the N82. Also this phone has a Xenon flash, which is an advantage for taking still photos. Personally, I feel this phone only has 2 main downsides, the first being that the screen is quite small in comparison with other phones available, which does not have touch screen. The other main downside is that the built in sat nav is not as good as some of the other phone apps you can get.

If you are looking for a compact camera and phone in one this is a great buy. I had a nokia n95-2 and this is a better camera, but that was a better phone. This phone's camera is amazing. This phone is bad for TEXTING, the buttons are very small. I expected the phone to be bigger but it is a really compact phone with tiny keys. I find it hard to text and will most likely sell it. Do not take my word because i find almost all phones keyboards small that is the reason i sold my n95.

bottom line great compact phone with amazing camera, but keys are a little too small

The phone itself has good features and a wide range of application Pre installed. It has good navigation which you can navigate yourself around Europe. But this software is only valid for 3 months which is a downside if you want to use it for a further year then is would cost you can extra 60 pounds. GPS built into the phone so no serrate devices. If you want to use the internal GPS only the nokia navigation will work with it. Other than that you cannot use it with other software. But i think navigon and route 66 are compatible but not 100%. The phone has a new version of the menu system meaning it has changes by the slights bit and is easier to use but hard to get used to. The physical features of the phone, it have a robust casing the phone itself is light but the keypad buttons do tend to get annoying with the clicking sound when you push them. But it has a slick design and very neat. The xenon flash, Carl ziess and 5.0mp camera truly is a great mix. It give you top of the range picture quality.
