The Nokia 5500 is obviously geared to take advantage of the current trend for healthy living.
However it has not neglected any of the other aspects of mobile telephony.
With the Sports mode selected the phone will be able to monitor and record various activities using its built in pedometer.
You can enter personal details such as sex, date of birth, height, weight, endurance level and heart rate when at rest and maximum level.

With a text-to-voice converter, it will actually read text messages out to you as well.

I very Sporty Mobile !!!

I have seen mixed reviews about this phone and comments about the keypad being faulty, however.....

I have had this phone for sim months and I have found it be excellent, the h
phone itself is small and compact and it feels solid and well built. In keeping with other Nokia smartphones such as the N80 or E50 this phone can run Symbian software such as Tomtom and other 3rd party applications.

It also has some nice features such as the text to speech facility for reading text messages and the dust and water resistant casing.

The only downsides are the limited screen size (208x208 pixels) and the battery life (about three days off a full charge).

Not a bad phone but the build quality doesn't live up to the hype. I bought a cover to protect mine but the back cover lock still managed to fall to pieces even with careful treatment and opening with the correct tool (not covered under the limited Nokia warranty) + this is the second time it's been sent back to Nokia for audio repair but this is covered by the 2 year guarantee so I guess that's something.

A rugged splash proof phone, screen is really to small to handle all the features and functions built into the phone. Battery life is not the best, probably because of all the functions built into the phone. Plenty of features but need the manual to figure them all out. If you need a rugged phone and don't need to use the email/web features too much this is the ideal phone. If you want to browse the web the screen is much to small to do it for more than a couple of minutes a day!
I am happy with it as a phone, and use it when I am working outside.

The only reason i got this phone was because it was water resistant. As a builder i have gone through many different makes and models up to now the phone is fine, not the easiest phone to use and the screen isnt very clear in normal daylight.

  Brilliant phone
Review created: 05/06/08

I had this phone on contract but unfortunatly lost it. Even though my contract is up for renewal next month, this is still the only phone I'll have.
Its durable, strong, water-resistant and I'm able to use it to accurately track my running, cycling, walking, etc. Not to mention it comes up with fitness plans and challenges for you.
Samsung have brought out a sport phone they hope will fill the gap left by this one...NEVER! It cant even compare.
Just to mention, some people may find it difficult at first as unlike most Nokias that are pretty standard to use, this one is slightly differant but once you know how it works, its brilliant.

Rock Solid - The Sportsman's Companion
Review created: 17/05/08

Indestructable! Throw it from a moving vehicle or drop it in the lake and the thing just keeps on working.

Functions and Features: its a smartphone with pretty much everything on it that you expect with the high end Nokias. Its even satnav compatible if you buy a small tranmitter.

Easy and intuitive to use, as you would expect from a Nokia.

As for people grumbling about the key pad peeling away... I did have a problem with this but I just bough a new case off Ebay for £0.89 and this has remained secure for over a year. Let's weigh things up - wet or drop a standard phone and break it, pay lots of money for replacement or claim on insurance; or get something rock solid and risk having to shell out £0.89 for a new cover... Hmmm - tough one!

  Hard as nails,Nokia 5500
Review created: 27/04/08

This is the third 5500 i have purchased. This one is for a friend. I have droped, kicked, frown, even droped it into a cup of coffee. And it STILL WORKS.
The only thing about this phone i would change is the over compicated menu system, it works well but can take time to get what you want. Over all a very good hard working phone. As a mechanic i do try to break my phones(not this one.)

I am very pleased with my phone. I bought it to replace my old hand set and need a hard wearing phone for my work as a tree surgeon.
It now means that I have a sim card only contract at a fraction of the cost. So I win all round. Cheep phone and cheep calls.

This product was a necessary replacement for a much older 'phone which had come to the end of its life.

The Nokia is easy to use however, some aspects of its' opporation took a little time to get used to; maybe a study of the manual would make life easier!

Taking everything into account my overall opinion is that this product is good, however I think a replacement battery is required, the current battery only keeps a charge for maybe, 36 hrs at the very most.

  The Free iPhone Guide

The Free iPhone Guide

To get yourself a free iPhone all you have to do is follow the 3 easy steps:

Step 1 : Sign up for a free iPhone
Sign up at the link below to get your free iPhone. We recommend this free iPhone site because it's been TRIED and TESTED to work.

http://apple.freebiejeebies.co.uk/4425 (copy and paste into browser)

You can choose other prizes like free ipod touch from this site too! Make sure you use a real email address. Use your real details when you sign up so that the company knows where to send your iPhone! Remember that they have been proven legitimate, so will send you your free iPhone if you do everything legitimately!

Step 2 : Try an advertiser's offer
Basically all you need to do in this step is complete one of the offers, this is where the freebie site make their money, if you complete an offer then the freebie site will recieve commission for it. So if you complete Coral which will only cost you £5 to complete, the freebie site gets £25 from Coral. The two best offers are Lovefilm Free DVD rental (rent two DVD's, keep them for about 2 days, send them back and then cancel the trial) and Coral (bet £5 on a sport). I would reccommend you do Coral as it credits in an hour and is really simple to do, Lovefilm however can become complicated and takes up to 2 weeks to credit! You can also try one of the other offers, most are gambling offers. Don't skip this step! You must complete this step to get your free iPhone!

Step 3 : Refer some friends
This part is a lot easier than it seems, especially now with free iPhone sites getting so popular. There's lots of people online who want a free iPhone too, so start referring them! You only need to get a few signups before you'll be finished. You can ask your friends or your online buddies. I already got a free PS3, Wii, and XBOX Elite without even having to ask my friends for help - there's lots of people online who want a free iPhone like you! One of the easiest ways to get a referral is to do a favour for a friend and ask them to sign up in return. That way, you both can get a free iPhone!

Basic rules
Don't break these rules! This is the only reason that you won't get your free iPhone, so make sure you follow these rules!

- One account per household - don't use a public computer to sign up!
- Use real information - this is a proven legitimate site and they will not give out your information.
- Only complete each offer once! You cannot complete the same offer again, even for different freebies.
- Don't try to cheat the system. This site has been proven legitimate, and they will catch you if you try to cheat. If you do everything legitimately, by following this guide, you will get a free iPhone!

Here the link again:- http://apple.freebiejeebies.co.uk/4425

Thats all, just follow my guide and you will have your free iPhone in no time.

Thank you.

- I've always owned and loved Nokias, until this one. You would need perfect 20/20 vision to be able to write a msg. Even the "Contacts" list is in tiny writing and cannot be changed. To find anything in the menus takes awhile because it's not structured like Nokias of the past. The text to voice function cannot be understood. Keyboard is flat and clustered and texts have to be written with you nails. For a 2MP camera, it's quality is very poor in all conditions. The volume is too low. It has already packed up once after a just a few months.
+ On the plus, it does take a good beating ,it has a good light and it's fairly tidy, but this doesn't make up for anything. TRY SENDING A MSG AFTER A FEW DRINKS & YOU'LL SEE.
ABSOLUTELY AWFUL!!!!!

I bought this because I had the previous sport one and it was sturdy and had good features like a torch.
For a sport phone this one is not waterproof and the font is way too small.
The quality of the pics is not good indoors.
All in all it is disapointing

I have owned this phone for just a couple of months and already the facia has come off, the rubber around it had to be glued it which didn’t work so now it has double sided sticky tape holding it together. The black around the numbers is wearing away. The screen and lens on the camera is made of a soft material, which is now scratched badly. I am not a big user of my phone I only spend about £10 a month so you know how little it has been used which is a big disappointment as I loved my previous phone a Nokia 5210(rubber type) which served me well for more than 4 years. It even survived being in my pocket full of water when I got caught in a rain storm while out on my horse. Being a horse rider I wanted something that would be rain and dust resistant this one is certainly not as advertised. I will no doubt be looking for a new phone shortly and I will take a lot of persuading to buy another Nokia. Sorry Nokia.

C**p phone, does,t charge properly with the little attachment supplied with this phone, why have they done this??
Very un-user friendly unlike other Nokia phones which are generally very good.
Poor maximum voloume, very difficult to have a conversation unless your in a silent room.
Buttons are close together and difficult to select even with small hands, I result to using my nails.
Menus are very long winded.

Summed up C**p.... Do not buy this phone!

Sophisticated & sporting - the ideal cyclist's phone
Review created: 07/08/07
by:
10 of 10 people found this review helpful.

I needed something robust, like my old Nokia "builder's phone", but with better features. The 5500 has a memory card slot, and its Symbian operating system means that it can run TomTom StaNav. Teamed with a tiny Holox GPS receiver, it's the ideal phone for the touring or audax cyclist, or for many other sportspeople.

It's got a decent battery life, a very clear screen, and loads of functions, including games, music, and simple exercise monitoring if you want to be entertained.

My only criticism is that this early release of Symbian is a wee bit slow to respond to menu commands, but you soon get used to it.

Be aware that you can't unlock the phone using the traditional unlock codes that are widely available, although you can pay the current service provider to release it. I haven't tried the latest unlock codes that are being developed. To save trouble, I bought one that was already on the network that I needed.

Highly recommended.
