i love this phone, in traditional nokia style its really easy to use, the music quality on the phone is excellent, compared to my previous phone (sony ericsson w300i). the only disadvantage is the camera on the phone is not excellent, but if its a camera your after buy a camera not a phone with a camera. The reason i decided to buy the phone is my sony w300i developed a fault as with alot of the sonys and it put me off buying another one, as nokias are always reliable i decided to get another one and after seeing this on last years x factor and loving the sporty look of the phone i decided this might be the phone for me, and i dont think i'll ever get bored of it (well until next year ha ha ).

Nokia 5200 - top spec phone for a slider
Review created: 04/10/07

Having always had Nokia's, the time had come for another change of phone. Although I've also got a 6300, I felt that I needed a phone that I didn't mind if it got knocked, scratched etc as the 6300 is a classy piece of kit and prone to marking. The 5200 fitted the bill. I opted for the black, simply because the finish suits my needs, lifestyle etc.
This is my first slider phone and I'm impressed. Usual ease of use, doddle to use with good quality sound output and ease of connectivity. Nokia have finally adopted a standard USB cable for data instead of using loads of different model specific leads. Uploaded all my contacts and the phone works a dream. Good quality audio and a nice loud ring for a change. What I do like about Nokia is that when using the phone memory for contacts (instead of the sim), you can add multiple numbers for the same contact name, plus email addresses, notes etc. I'm pleased they kept this format for the 5200.
Camera isn't bad for a VGA and works well; lets face it, if you need a camera then buy one, but for a phone that cost me £50, the built in camera is as expected. Usual features such as bluetooth, calendar, email access, gallery etc.
The only thing to be aware of, is the screen resolution isn't as sharp as most standard monoblock phones, due mainly to the means of connection used for a sliding phone. Changing menu's etc., is reminiscent of earlier LCD portable TV's where the screen 'fades' from one image to another. It's not a fault of the phone, but a characteristic of being a slider. That aside though, it's a top phone and I'd well recommend the 5200.
PS: Considered the 5300, but the blurb on Nokia website stated it isn't email compatible (which I need). If it had of been, I'd have opted for the 5300 only because the camera's a better spec.

Brilliant phone once again from the Nokia people, easy to use and great little extras. Compact phone, great slide action, especially useful when only one hand free. Would recommend this phone to anyone, not complicated at all even my eight old can use it.

One of the easiest phone to use I've ever had.
a stylish funky camera& loads more phone without the price of top end phones offering the same.
although it only has 2 games on it you can easily download some.
the phone:camera,music player(also slot for memory card)radio,contacts,push to talk,organizer,web&more.
The camera is very good for a mobile phone.
anyone wanting a easy simple phone with loads of features this is the mobile for you.
you do have to have a usb lead(not included)to download/transfer music, video&games to mobile.

this phone is great, you can ring people on it, you can even let people ring you on it, its front slides up and down, and ir you are in a sliding mood, you can slide the damn phone front thing as many times as you like.. you can have different ring tones on it, you can listen to music ranging from anything like Mendelsohn,Mozart or even Motorhead..It, like anything else you buy, wether it be off Ebay, from wilkinsons or even off QVC,This is the clever bit right, it can also be doubled up as a handy doorstop...how good is that. and if you are feeling that way out,you could throw it at a wall,or even your friends..Hell what are you supposed to write in these reviews anyway.so my missus left me, i purchased something off ebay and forgot to leave feedback....so i have to write a load of cobblers on here..Tell you something though !!! i wont forget again..pmsl..

This phone has everything you need in a phone. It is dual band, has bluetooth, is very easy to use and also still looks good against newer models. It is also lightweight and has some really funky tones that are pre-installed. New covers can even still be purchased. I cannot think of anything that is against this phone.

  Nokia 5200, nifty & neat.
Review created: 09/10/08

I bought the Nokia 5200 for my wife to replace her Motorola V3 RAZR which was on PAYG with Vodafone, as she had just commited to a SIM only contract with Virgin so needed an unlocked or Virgin phone.
I talked her into a Nokia as I find them to be excellent phones, although I tend to go for basic candy bar phones myself, without all the gadgets as long battery life is far more important to me than cameras and music players.
This said, the 5200 has a very good battery life, but this will be shortened by playing music and taking pictures, so once the novelty has worn off, it should settle down and be worth a good week between charges (my Nokia 1208 goes 2 weeks between charges).
It is neat looking and the slide is extremely smooth and the screen is big and easy to read and being a slide phone, the keys are protected from damage. When closed it is a very compact little unit and the build quality is very good, giving it a sturdy feel, although I have my reservations about the complexity of slide phones.
It has a good range of MP3 quality ringtones and you can assign any of your stored music to undertake the task of alerting you that you have an incoming call and as this phone came shipped with a 1 GB micro SD card, upward of 250 MP3 songs can be stored. With the supplied earphones, this phone is also a very high quality MP3 player and the sound through the built-in speaker isn't bad either, but it would probably get you kicked off the train!
The camera has 4 X zoom, but is only VGA resolution, but what is with the obsession with 2 megapixels and above at the moment, its a phone when all is said and done and the original idea of phones with basic cameras, was small file size which can be sent in a text or e-mail. It can also take video clips, but again at VGA resolution and the zoom is set at whatever it was at once the video feature is started and cannot be altered during filming.
All in all, it is an excellent little phone and being a Nokia it is likely to give good and reliable service if you remember to take it out of your jeans before they get thrown in the washing machine.

This is my 2nd 5200. The first was smashed in a car accident and the screen shattered. I ordered another on straight away as I really love this model. The best Nokia I have had over the years. It's chunky, yet small. The camera is good as is the radio. I just like the feel and appearance of it. Usually I'm in a hurry to upgrade when my contract says I can - not with this one, I will keep this one until it wears out.

I like this phone it is an absalotely perfect birthday present for my youngest sister (13 years old), it is perfect for her, it has all the things that she needs! I would say it is much better for youngesters rather than older people as its not that good at taking pictures but everything else including the music is really good!

It has nothing about it to dislike. My criteria for a mobile is: great memory for messages, easy to use and looks smart. The keyboard is backlit which is good at night. If you're not sure whether to buy it all not,I say get it you won't regret it!

  Great Stuff

I bought this phone for my daughter when her old Benq-Siemens flip started to die. By comparison this phone is perfect. Navigation is the same solid Nokia formula, the text messaging is simple and easy, the camera is good quality and easy to use and the music player is excellent - especially if you add it to the quick shortcut keys because if you access it through the fast button on the side you can't skip, but in full mode it handles like an MP3 player should. It's solidly designed and the slide is solid enough for confident use without worrying about breaking it. It's fully customisable like all Nokias, so you don't have that annoying thing where you can't change certain tones like you do with some other brands. While this is now one of Nokia's older phones it stands up well against newer models and does everything a basic user needs. Its age give you one advantage though - its relative cheapness on the second-hand market. I bought mine for less than £20. All in all a lovely, solid useful phone that should last a while without seeming embarrassingly clunky or light on features and a great bargain.

I had been after a new mobile phone for a while but could not find the exact model in the shops found it on e-bay though.
It is black in colour and with its slide front really to use the addition of a memory card (also bought on e-bay) it is more like a mini computer.
Obviously being a Nokia it will last a long time unlike my old MotorolaV3 which only lasted a year before expiring

The Nokia 5200 is a compact neat little music phone. The expandable memory is great for all those tunes and videos etc. It is very easy to use. The slide function is superb and well designed. Ive also had the 5300 of this phone too which is the updated version. In my opinion both are very similar and equally as good.
This little phone is ideal for any age user.

This is a great little phone. I bought it for my daughter who was struggling with more up to date phones. This phone has easy to use buttons & a very easy menu, like all Nokias.
The only disapointment is the camera, being VGA the pictures aren't great but for younger users its fine.
All in all a great value phone that looks the part.

Nokia 5200 New Dawn Of Mobiles (Old School)
Review created: 30/01/08
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I eargerly awaited the arrival of my Nokia 5200 and was pleasently surprised at the packaging,
it came in a crystal coach pulled by 12 white horses and a coachman wearing white silk and crsytal shoes with the finest silken bows.
The phone was brought to me on a velvet cushion with a final bow and curtsey and as i opened the box a troup of trumpeteers came out and heralded a fanfare whilst 8 white doves emitted from the box with the ribbons of its packaging in their tiny beaks.
As the box fell open a light emitted and lo there was the phone!

I deep voice bellowed from the heavens "This is the phone i made in my image, treat it well and use it justly, for i am the lord and my word is law!"
With trrepidation i turned it on and was surprised,
Quite average actually!

We bought this for my mum, to replace her old Nokia 3510i, as she wants Bluetooth and videos.

It's great because she was able to get used to it very quickly, as the layout is very similiar to her old phone. It also takes Videos and Music, which she enjoys using.

The nokia-like any nokias are best phones around and always reliable-but i bought it for someones xmas and i did have it in the house and had only used it to really check it out before travelling a few months later to pass it to someone-but i eventually sold it due to split up..Yes i,ll be honest this phones great for anyone who likes there music and also likes the nokias-but i personally thought the camera was extremely poor-and also the look of it was cheapie looking-different colour wouldve been better so i bought facials-but when i bought this phone as it was for someone else-he,d have loved it as didnt care for camera-me i wouldnt buy another nokia 5200-but im not saying its not great phone-just i personally wouldnt like one myself.I also noticed after not so many pictures the camera wouldnt allow anymore also if i downloaded and videos it wouldnt hold much-i can only give you my advice-theres better out there and i honestly didnt think id say this about any nokia but i thought it was great for anyone who didnt care for camera-but if you want good camera-or even a half decent camera-thren this is not the phone for you.Music and everything else maybye so-but thats the downer with nokia 5200.SORRY nokia lovers-as i am-but this one wasnt as good as it could be and anyone wants to be honest-will agree....

  Owning A Nokia 5200
Review created: 14/10/07

2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Like all Nokias I've you've used one before you can pick this up and know your way around it without any problems at all, texting is easy and the buttons are a good size, compared to some phones that have tiny buttons and you end up pressing two at once, for those who are fast at texting this nokia keeps up unlike some other models I've used before this one. The screen is a good bright display and very clear to see, the menu is easy to navigate around and in general its a very easy phone to use. With its slot for an SD card you can have an SD card full of pictures, videos and MP3's whatever you choose. The phones memory is very small so you will want to invest in an SD card if your purchasing one. The sound quality at high volume is clear and a good volume, the headphones that come with the phone provide a good full sound when listening to music. The phones negative points are of course it does look like a kids toy, with a blue black or red cover it still looks like something a young child would play with, its slide mechanism wobbles a little bit when its open and in general doesn't have that bulletproof feel to it like older nokias do and has you very worried if you drop it (which I done but thankfully it still works fine). The camera is a very poor quality and has no flash, and the phones memory space as mentioned is not good at all coming in at a poor 9mb. So if your looking for a phone to take pictures with then avoid this, if your looking for a phone that is easy to use, has a very clear display (good for playing games), listening to mp3's on the headphones and in general using it as a mobile instead of a camera then I would recommend this. Its good value for money.

I was interested to get Nokia 5200, so I tried bidding on the items. Its standard Nokia, I was expecting a bit more. Im not using it regularly. its good u can enlarge a memory. and I like slide system of opening. I dont like the battery is different as in Nokias before - its smaller. so its not fit if you want to help by battery from your 'old' Nokia. but still Nokia is my most favourite brand of mobile phones :)
