The Nikon 85mm 1.4 ais is a wonderful lense and is built to last.Mine has been around for many years but gives better results than many newer lenses.I bought this lense as i have a Nikon D200 which can take this lense, some of the smaller Nikon slr's cant so it's worth checking before you buy.You can use this lense in low light without the need to ramp up the iso, which with many digital slr's can leave you with alot of noise, mine included.IT make's a wonderful portrait lense which is what i bought it for. This is a manual lense though, you will have to focus and change the apertures on the lense and not through the camera. This may not be to everybodies taste but this is a specialised lense for pro's.The cost secondhand for an AF version would be around £550-£600.The Nikon 85mm 1.8 afd is also a wonderful lense and if you don't need the 1.4 aperture i would recommend it instead.
