I owned the D50 and this was an upgrade, I had to sell a bunch of stuff to buy it but it is totally worth it. The quality and build of the camera is excellent, the quality of photo is amazing, the features are a million miles away from the D50, full motion video, shooting jpg in fine and raw at the same time, depth of field preview, and all easy to use. Nikon have an excellent area on their site that give video tutorials, its well worth the half our or so going through these when you have your D90 in your hands.
You will love this camera, I promise, even the on-board image processing is good, with features such as fisheye, it make photography a lot of fun, and takes your image quality to another level.
