The D80 is a consumer version of the Pro-sumer D200. While it has the same pixel count as the D200, it can ONLY shoot at 3 frames per second as against the D200's 5 FPS. I think that most photographers will conclude, as I did, that 3 FPS is quite sufficient.

The camera is lightning quick in capturing the required image though. There is no discernable shutter lag at all. If your first digital camera was of the compact variety, you will know what a huge benefit this is. No more missed shots of baby's expression, the kittens leaping for the string, your son scoring the winning goal etc, etc.

The viewfinder is huge, more than big enough to review accurately, the image you have just taken. You can also zoom into the tinyest portion of the image by using the navigation buttons.

It is a camera body where everything comes readily to hand and is where you expect it to be. While there is a lot to learn on this, (I wouldn't describe it as a simple camera to learn), you can use it as a point and shoot in fully automatic mode if you want to. This however would not do justice to the myriad of brilliant features which enable you to make a poor picture acceptable and a good picture great.

Since you are not using film and can quickly delete shots you are not happy with AND with a 2 Gb Secure Digital card inserted, you have hundreds of chances to practice with, this is a fantastic camera to learn the skills of composing and framing your shots.

To sum up: If you have previously only been used to a digital compact, prepare for a major and very pleasant surprise.

I cannot reccommend it highly enough

What Camera, I never received one

On Sun 6/1/08 I won an Ebay aution for a camera ref #230209873869 advartised by a company named easishop. On Mon 7/1/08 as requested by Ebay (PAY NOW)I paid for the item via Pay Pal. I subsequently received a receipt from paypal in some of £485 for payment of the goods. On the same day received email from easishop confirming payment. On Tues 8/1/08 I received email from ebay stating that the auction had been cancelled and advised to log dispute with paypal. I tried to do this on numerous occasions without gain as the system wouldnt accept any of the transaction numbers quoted. I sought from ebay and told to contact you direct. On Fri 11/1/08 £485 removed from my Bank account HOW CAN THIS BE WHEN YOU WERE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM WITH THE COMPANY PRIOR TO THIS DATE ????

On Tues 15/1/08 I received an email from easishop stating that the goods would never be delivered to me and advised to obtain a full refund via Paypal.I cannot understand why you allowed the money to be taken out of my account when you knew there was a problem with the company.

Please find below an extract of e-mail from ebay adted 8th Jan 2008:

Dear 8963frank (frank.wright10@btinternet.com),

We'd like to let you know that eBay has ended an item you were bidding on because the item appears to have been listed without the account holder's permission. We are now restoring the account to its original owner. For privacy reasons, we can't share any further details regarding this member's account.

This clearly shows that there was a problem with the seller and that ebay were aware.

The camera was to be a gift for someones 50th birthday and because the money was taken out of my bank account some 5 days after the auction had ended I could not afford to replace it for anything else. This totally spoiled our day.

I feel really aggreived about these events but hope you can restore my confidence in Ebay and Pay Pal in the future. On your recomentation I reported this to Pay Pal. I have since received a insulting £150 from Pay Pal leaving me £335 short of the amount I paid. I will never trust E bay again. You are now asking me to reveiw something I never received.

Frank
