Decided to update my trusty D70 with the new D80 ,what a good move.
Nikon have produced a truly excellent piece of kit, many features being condenced into single buttons, no need to keep entering menu. Fast picture zoom, in camera crop and under exposure facility make the D80 a
Great camera, but buy spare battery as extra features can soon depleat.
If you are looking to update your kit give ebay a try.

  Great upper mid range camera

Usual Nikon quality, purchased as hobby/general camera and very happy thus far. I would highly recommend Nikor 18-200VR lense to go with camera, little expensive but the results are faultless. Camera full of features although repeat shutter only 3/sec so a little slow for action shots. Invest in a speedlight flash too as integral flash is not great and get a fast memory card as jpeg and raw files are big at full resolution.

Overall a good amature camera which will do everything other than sports photography very well. Invest in good sundry items to compliment a good camera.

  Get a free iPhone now!
Review created: 13/10/08

To get yourself a free iPhone all you have to do is follow the 3 easy steps:

Step 1 : Sign up for a free iPhone
Sign up at the link below to get your free iPhone. We recommend this free iPhone site because it's been TRIED and TESTED to work.

http://apple.freebiejeebies.co.uk/45 (copy and paste into browser)

You can choose other prizes like free consoles from this site too! Make sure you use a real email address. Use your real details when you sign up so that the company knows where to send your iPhone! Remember that they have been proven legitimate, so will send you your free iPhone if you do everything legitimately!

Step 2 : Try an advertiser's offer
Basically all you need to do in this step is complete one of the offers, this is where the freebie site make their money, if you complete an offer then the freebie site will recieve commission for it. So if you complete Coral which will only cost you £5 to complete, the freebie site gets £25 from Coral. The two best offers are Lovefilm Free DVD rental (rent two DVD's, keep them for about 2 days, send them back and then cancel the trial) and Coral (bet £5 on a sport). I would reccommend you do Coral as it credits in an hour and is really simple to do, Lovefilm however can become complicated and takes up to 2 weeks to credit! You can also try one of the other offers, most are gambling offers. Don't skip this step! You must complete this step to get your free iPhone!

Step 3 : Refer some friends
This part is a lot easier than it seems, especially now with free iPhone sites getting so popular. There's lots of people online who want a free iPhone too, so start referring them! You only need to get a few signups before you'll be finished. You can ask your friends or your online buddies. I already got a free PS3, Wii, and XBOX Elite without even having to ask my friends for help - there's lots of people online who want a free iPhone like you! One of the easiest ways to get a referral is to do a favour for a friend and ask them to sign up in return. That way, you both can get a free iPhone!

Basic rules
Don't break these rules! This is the only reason that you won't get your free iPhone, so make sure you follow these rules!

- One account per household - don't use a public computer to sign up!
- Use real information - this is a proven legitimate site and they will not give out your information.
- Only complete each offer once! You cannot complete the same offer again, even for different freebies.
- Don't try to cheat the system. This site has been proven legitimate, and they will catch you if you try to cheat. If you do everything legitimately, by following this guide, you will get a free iPhone!

Thats all, just follow my guide and you will have your free iPhone in no time.

Thank you.

  Excellent Entry Level Camera
Review created: 01/10/08
by:

Although this camera is supposedely being substituted by the new D90, I'd say it is an excellent entry for the non professional photographer like myself who nevetheless enjoys having the best quality for the money, and in the midst of the substitution one can find good deals. I'm sure that the D90 is an excellent piece of gear, but I'm also sure that the D80 still is too (just like the D70 keeps being an excellent camera).
I used to have a D40x and I really prefer having a LCD with the control panel, it's really useful and much more practical than having to travel through all those menus to get a specifical setting. Also I think it's more rugged built and more easy to grab. One of the things that really annoyed me on the D40x was the auto focus which always kept me from taking fast pictures, especially with low light. The D80 is a much more serious approach to the semi-pro photografer (which I'm not... I'm more of a semi-pro wanna be).

  Nikon D80 - my choice.
Review created: 28/09/08
by:

This is a fantastically versatile camera. It works well with all my existing Nikon lenses, therefore making it for me, incredibly good value for money. There's no need to spend a fortune on DX lenses as this is pretty forgiving with any compatible lens. The features are varied and it is very adaptable in use which gives it a leading edge over the D40, D40x and D60 (all of which I'm familiar with). In short, if you need an all rounder to enhance your Nikon collection, or as a first time camera, this is the one!

Best place to buy one of the best cameras
Review created: 28/08/08
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This is in my opinion the best camera you can buy at this price. I’ve done a lot of research and the D80 is the best semi-pro camera you can buy. Its only downfall is that it costs slightly more than its main rivals, but at this price it’s a complete bargain. I’ve only had it a week and I’ve already taken loads of great pictures with it, the camera itself is very easy to use but full of features for when you want to experiment.

I’d recommend buying a good lens with this, both Nikon and Sigma do great value 50-70mm ones at about £100, and a bag to keep it all in.

I had a Nikon D50 for the last 18 months, growing out of it, up dated to semi-
profesional,I really liked my D50.
A number of lad's had Nikon camaras in the photo club, D60,80,200 &300,The D300
out of my range, besides I'm no pro, So I went for the best semi-pro modal.
Another point why I choose Nikon, is because I have a range of pro lense's (f/2.8),Why change, I like Nikon,I also have a range of Nikon Film Camara's.

I have the Nikon D80 at last, and wish I had held on for that(I bought a D40X first). What a differance, so much better to use, everything is to hand, all my old lenses fit straight on as there Nikor. I took good photos with my old camera, but with this I will take great photos. I cant see any down side to this camera, and am suprised that there is so much gap between this and the full spec pro camera that is 10x its cost(but then again I was suprised about the gap between the D40x and the D80). If you want a good DSLR buy any Nikon, if you want a great DSLR buy a Nikon D80.

  Good service
Review created: 26/06/08
by:

The packet was received by Correos in Spain in less than 10 days. No major issue. Everything ready and with 90 days Nikon warranty for a refurnished product. So far we are testing the camera and it was quite well.
Bear in mind that the product does not include SD card, you will need to buy one, but it was ok because the seller didn't include SD card in the ad.
Payment was done with PayPal and the messaging was clear and fast. I would repeat this acquisition, with a huge saving compare with local stores.

Nikon D80, Good Camera, Great Spare
Review created: 26/06/08
by:

I use a Nikon D200 and needed a spare camera, D80 fitted the position perfect. Very similar camera, lighter though.. The functions are good and great quality pics. With this camera Nikon has moved to the SD/SDHC format from the D200 CF card which meant an extra purchase.
The buffer is a bit limited, gets full after 6-8 shots.

Overall, good camera but a better spare/second camera if you’re a serious enthusiast....

Excellent camera. Just one step below the professional camera.

The quality of the colours is really good. I like the fact that I can use High ISO with a relatively low noise.

The bad news is when RAW format is used. It can not be changed/modified with the supplied software. I should buy an addition software for that!!!

Overall recommended

  D80 for beginners
Review created: 04/06/08

With spring in the air and young birds nesting in the garden, I thought it would be a great opportunity to get some good quality pictures of them. The coopix camera was useless beyond 6 feet, so, having used an SLR 20 years ago, I thought I would treat myself to what appears to be one of the best. It did not take me long to get used to the camera, very easy to use on Auto mode and the rest of the manual use is coming along nicely. Take the plunge, the pictures are supurb. I am using it with an autofocus 28mm - 300 zoom lens by Tamron and I am looking forward to many years of fun with this camera, taking pictures of our native wildlife for my grandchildren.

  Nikon D80 - Amazingly capable - A GREAT Camera
Review created: 29/05/08
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

First of all, Nikon build quality, I mean, it's built like it means business, and after all, 10 million pro's will not look at anything else, so that's good enough for me. If Carlsberg made cameras, they'd probably come up with something like this. As it is, all the bells and whistles actually have a useful function, and that is to help you produce images that you will be proud of.
Compared to a bridge / compact, it feels big and heavy, but it is still extremely comfortable to hold. It does not take long to get used to the control layout, and all the buttons etc feel just right. I bought the body and lens separately, and went for the 18-200 VR. the lens is a great choice is you're scared of dust on the sensor, as it means you'll hardly ever need to change. I'll be looking for a macro at some stage, though.
So far I've not found anything to dislike about it, and the reason for purchase was one of practicalities. Why upgrade a small step at a time, when for a pretty reasonable cost you can go straight to the top in one jump?

  Keeping Customers Happy
Review created: 29/05/08

Needing to add a second D80 body to one I already own, this 'refurbished' body was ideal in price. Ordering and paying (by Paypal) was easy.
The camera arrived within 24 hours, well packed and looking like new. So, yes I'm happy.
I do worry about those who know little about this sort of thing and need to talk to someone about things before buying, that sort of service is hard to find now.

Bought this after having a olympus e500 and what a difference! Dont get me wrong, the olympus is a good piece of kit and takes good pictures, its just that the d80 takes better pictures, is better to hold, and a menu system... well is better all round.

As the olympus is semi-pro, the d80 is also semi pro, but more on the pro side and produced better images.

This is a must have, if you have the cash!

The D80 has the edge over canon, particularly in it's ability to shoot at high (up to 3200)ISO 1600,with virtually no noise.
With a solid and reliable feel it will give pleasure to those, who just want to point and shoot and those who want to apply their technical skills to achieve greater results.

  D80 Body
Review created: 21/03/08
by:

Nikon have done it again. The D80 raises the bar for the DSLR home user. Nikon have designed a camera to replace the D70 which is smaller in size but packs a bigger punch.
The camera is easy to use, takes great pictures, and has such a fast start time that it is ready to shoot even before you get the camera to your eye.
It offers some great auto settings which enable even the new user to take great shoots, but offers the more experienced user total manual control.

  Nikon D80.
Review created: 11/03/08

Replacement for my F90.

Two things I’m not keen on.

You can't set the aperture with the aperture ring on your lens. Even in Aperture priority mode. Its all done on the camera body. I'll get used to it I guess. Mildly annoying though.

Won’t allow my SB23 Speedlight to work in TTL mode. I need to get a new flash.
Other than that this Camera truly rocks. The image quality is staggering.

It’s billed as a semi-pro.

If you just want some good holiday snaps it’s probably not worth splashing out the money.

If you’re semi+ interested in photography you would be very happy with one of these.

Moved from Nikon F601 35mm to Fuji digital but hankered after a Nikon Digital. D40X while an attractive buy wouldn't take my old Nikkor AF 35-135mm lens so needed the D80. Eventually found a great D80 package (Body +18-55/70-200mm lenses) through Home Discount UK - excellent service - and am absoluteley delighted. Fast into-action time and outstanding quality with the 10Mb pictures. Simple to use controls with practice and the large viewing screen is superb. Recommend use of Nikon SB600/800 Speedlight flash for the more challenging shots. This camera should satisfy my needs for many years! Thouroughly recommended.

Little more can be said about this camera as the reviews in general rave about this product and build. This reviewer is no different, it does what it is designed to do, with flawless precision. To the man in the street the pictures are perfect to the amateur they are perfect albeit with some minor reservations and to the professional well I know a few that use it as a second source of backup and rate it highly. So worth the money? Yes, worth upgrading now, doubt it, three years from now? Yes likely to upgrade but hopefully, will have no need. Looking forward to the next three years photography.

Before I say anything, this is a fantastic camera at this price point. I am a "keen amature" and have used a few digital cameras, but the D80 feels more like a semi-pro unit than perhaps the Canon 400D (which is another great enthusiast camera).

In operation the D80 does feel great. The shutter release action is smooth, and so too is the mirror action.

The control interface is "reassuringly complex", combining as it does the high level of exposure control demanded by enthusiasts with some easy-to-use features for less advanced users, including a full-auto mode and a small selection of scene programs.

The layout of the multi-function buttons on the D80 is quite complicated, with some of them very awkwardly placed. With a bit of practice, it will no doubt become more intuitive.

I bought the Nikon 18-200 VR lens to go with the body and, I have to say, is an impressive duo. This camera will, undoubtedly, serve me for a few years to come. I just hope my own photography skills can do it justice!

For two weeks I had a fight on with gettig the write camera at the right price. The three main cameras I looked at was, Nikon D80/D200/D300.

In a nutshell I sold my D50 and i'm more than happy with my D80, its sems to be more user friendly, the 10Mpix range is far superoir to other cams I have used.
Nikon have made life easier with controls, user mods, and even better holding.
Picture quality "breathles" but maybe im a little too excited after moving from 6.9 - 10.7 ish meg pix, but on quick adjudication the picture quality is nothing different to what i have seen with D2x and D300.

The Nikon D80 seems ot have better controls and pictures than the D200, In short now, I feel persoanlly the D80 is a lot better than anticipated and im not sure I wil upgrade for a while. Note also the D80 can use Sd and SDHC cards unlike the D200 and Dx1 DH cameras. If your thinking of getting a D40x then I would strongly say go for the D80 without any reservations, you' will be limited to what lenses with the D40x, seems like a glorified version on the D50.

Affordable camera. It does have all the little functions of a higher spec slr although you have to look for them in the settings menu.I dare say that for somebody who has the camera in thier hands all day would find it would not last long. It is not as robust as higher spec nikons, a bit lighweight and plasticy.
However you get what you pay for and I find the results spot on, its easy to handle and if you can be bothered to fiddle around with it a bit will save you about £400 on the price of a D200 or similar.
