I bought this as a second camera, something to keep with me when my DSLR is too bulky- from this perspective it is great. I spent a long time deliberating whether to buy a newer compact digital with lots of features, or a more solid quality used one (Canon, Lumix etc). Having played with lots of them and read pretty much every review going, I finally went with the Nikon. The Canons may win on imaging, the Lumix on lenses but the Nikon is the best compromise between price/features/quality. Imaging is generally good as long as you stay off using ISO400+; menus are easy to use and understand; noise reduction and anti-shake are useful; screen and viewfinder are clear and battery life is phenomenal; the magnesium body of this means it will take some knocks but is still very light. The downsides are the poor quality of ISO400+ images; in-built flash is no use except at about 8-10ft (less or more and results are dodgy); auto-focussing is pedestrian in both continuous and single shot modes; auto white balance is not perfect. On balance though, if I wanted perfect, I'd lug my Canon DSLR around- as a small, easy to use, generally good quality camera this is perfect and streets ahead of similarly priced competition.
