After tirelessly researching on the internet what's available on the market I decided to replace the Nikon COOLPIX 7600 that I purchased for the first
time in 2006 with the exact same camera!!!!!
After carelessly dropping my original on more than one occaision I needed a replacemet but found that although the newer models now have larger viewing screens this was
really the only benefit.
The COOLPIX 7600 I already had offered me more functions than more recent models within the same price range and much more importantly gave sharper picture images
than those with higher pixels - often a common problem with compact digitals as I've now discovered.
The things that I love about it are:
* Easy to use and understand even if you're a novice!
* Decent battery life - either with rechargeables supplied or normal AA batteries
* Powerful optical zoom to bring your subject closer giving really sharp results as well as additional digital zoom
* Close-up macro facility is one of the best I've come across on any compact camera - I've used it for photographing butterflies and even bees and the results were stunning!
* Offers the option to take photos in natural colours or vivid colours (for enhanced results)as well as black & white and sepia
* Other useful features such as red-eye reduction and the option to date-print your photos if desired
* Good quality video recording facility (although I don't really use this to be honest)
* Handy auto-focus option particularly useful if you're not one for adjusting settings before taking photographs
When I first bought this model in 2006 it cost me £350 as it was near the top end of the market at the time for a digital compact.
I consulted with Nikon as to the eqivalent now and was advised to upgrade to a COOLPIX P90. However, this was far too large a camera for what I wanted as I like something
that is light-weight and slips in your pocket.
I read numerous reviews for compact & ultra compact cameras of all makes but none offered the quality and sharpness with the end results and so I thought 'better the devil
you know' and decided to replace my old one with exactly the same model!
I actually found a brand new boxed one on ebay for just £69 with a free 2GB memory card included which was also pleasing as I had resigned myself to the fact that I'd
probably be looking at around £400 to replace/upgrade.
I now have the camera in my possesion and used it a couple of nights ago at a school reunion and also today at Whipsnade Animal Park. As I expected,
the results are amazing, the colours and sharpness of the images captured fantastic and I didn't have to learn how to use a new model!
Highly recommended to amateurs and professionals who want a compact point & shoot as a back-up that is ready to hand when required.
