A great lens for me with excellent results on my first outing, very happy with the results. Focusing seems very accurate and takes very sharp photos. Just to mention, this lens does not work on the Nikon D40 or D40X but it does work on the D50 And D70. I just bought a D50 body and so this is confirmed, it delivers excellent results.

It really depends on what you want the lens for. It is really light so if your taking hand held shots at 300mm, the majority of them will be out of focus. It feels fragile so if you intend on using it all the time be careful.

I am only an amateur so this lens is perfect for me. I have a 28-200 VR lens in work and you can tell the difference in weight and quality, that lens is nearly 3 times the cost though!

I say get the lens, enjoy it for what it is. A very low cost 70-300mm lens that will make you think about shutter speeds and apertures.

I've only had the lens for 30 minutes (lol) but I recommend setting the aperture to F11 when zooming up to 300mm. I will carry on experimenting but for now, I'm really happy I bought it.

  Great value telephoto zoom lens

For its price, you get a lot of "bang for your buck" as they say. It's not the fastest lens in the world, but it works with all Nikon cameras, including the D40/D40X/D60 [where you have to manually focus]. On digital cameras, you get an 'equivalent' 105-450mm lens which will get you many photos that you'd just miss out on if you stick with your kit lens [either the 18-55mm or the 18-70mm]. You won't be disappointed with this lens for its sheer low price.

Good to Average, But light and versatile

Nice and light product from Nikon, Works well with my D90, Lack of stability in poor light condition, when you will need a Mono/Tripod to ensure a good shot.
It is small enough to be included into any amateur photographer camera bag, and again so light that you don't notice it had been added to the kit:)
Drawback, you have to turn the D90's AF on "Manual" to retract the lens to its minimal dimension when changing it, honestly that is not a big issue, you just have to remember to set the AF "on" again when securing the next lens.
All in all a good to average product, lack of VR though (will remember it for next investment

  nikon AF 70-300mm

the nikon AF 70-300 is a good lens for the ameture photographer. the lens is very well made compared to the price you can get one for nowadays. there is no manual focus switch on the lens but manual can be acheived by the functions on your own cammera.
the lens focuses relatively quickley and copes well with fast moving objects eg in sports mode.
the only down side is that the lens has no macro function. although close-ups can be achieved by standing a few feet away from the object and use the lenses huge zoom capability to get the desired frame. the results doing it this way are surprisingly good aslong as you have a steady hand.
relatively speaking the nikon AF 70-300mm lens is a well made and robust piece of kit that produces good reliable images for its price range. i would well recomend this lens to anyone who has just started photography or is looking for a good lens but not wanting to pay proffesional prices.

  Responsive Lens.

The Nikon AF 70-300mm lens is very responsive and locks onto subject very quickly.Focusing is a bit noisy compared to the new lenses with silent wave motors, but is still a pleasure to use.The images are very clear and sharp for a lens of this size, even without use of a tripod.Ideal for sports and wildlife (reason i bought one)photography where its not always easy to get close to the subject.I'm using it on a Nikon D80 and it has a nice balance and feel to it,especially with the addition of the battery pack.If you are after a good solid lens that delivers quality shots, then this is for you.It may not have all the latest VR and s/wave motor, but it still packs a punch for a lot less cash.

  Looking for Nikon lenses

For some time I had been scanning Ebay with the intention of purchasing a 70-300 lens for my Nikon D50 camera. I had hoped to buy secondhand a good condition lens and ultimately this is what I did. I had thought of buying from Hong Kong and although the purchase would have had heavy delivery charges it was still viable in terms of total price. Having limited funds and being in no hurry to make a purchase I was glad that eventually I was able to secure what I wanted on an Ebay site and have been very happy with my bargain.

price , price ,price you get what you pay for , 450 for under £100 is not going to give you a fast lense -but you will learn from this bit of kit, a bit noisy but overall light weight good focus speed and if you kill it in the field you wont cry for a month, you would have to spend 3x as much to really benefit in stepping up a grade, and the non pro, really wont need to , if you get a chance to buy @ £75ish grab it and have fun will need a sunny day to really get the most out of it without a rest,
