Album Notes New Order: Bernard Sumner (vocals, guitar, keyboards); Peter Hook (vocals, bass); Stephen Morris (vocals, drums); Gillian Gilbert (keyboards, synthesizer).Recorded at BBC 1 Studios, London, England on February 16, 1981 and January 6, 1982.DJ John Peel became one of the most influential men in the British music scene with his almost unerring ability to pick the "next big thing". His radio show airs specially recorded live studio sessions, consisting of four songs by whatever band he favors that week. Often artists use this opportunity to promote current singles, though occasionally they demo new songs and perform covers of songs by other artists. This album contains the results of two New Order Peel Sessions, and the tracks fall into all three of the aforementioned camps. The first session, recorded in early 1981, consists of raw versions of four tracks that appeared on the band's first album MOVEMENT, in rather different versions. The second session, from 1982, consists of two songs that showed up on the band's second album POWER, CORRUPTION AND LIES, and two others, "Too Late" and "Turn the Heater On". The first never showed up again and the second, written by Jamaican-born reggae artist Keith Hudson, was recorded as a tribute to the late Ian Curtis, a great fan of Hudson's work. These tracks show an experimental New Order inventing the sounds that would shape the future of dance music.
