Adding more ports to your basic 4-port router

Why I bought this was because I was getting more and more PC's in the house and not enough connections to the internet. Most routers only have 4 ports.I prefer hardwired over wireless so this was the ideal solution. Don't take any notice of the fact that it's not gigabyte [10/100/1000] Only big offices have that sort of network. Here in the U.K. Maximum speed of the internet is only about 32megabyte anyway [if you're one of the lucky ones], so the 10mbyte/100mbyte switch is more than ample.
What I like about this is it is just plug and plug. There is nothing to install. Even if you have the wrong cables i.e you have a cross-over cables and straight through cables. The Switch automatically sets the correct mode of operation. Just plug it in and off you go.
Just use a short cat5e cable from one of the router ports into one of the switch ports and now you have in total 7 free ports for 7 PC's!
There is nothing really to dislike about this simple little box. If there was one thing to improve it - which I did, Was to stick 4 extra rubber feet on the existing 4 rubber pads. The reason for this is that, most people will have it sitting on their existing router [whether you're using the netgear router, or any router come to that]and you have to think of warmth and air circulation. The extra feet give just that bit more space between the two boxes for air circulation.
If it's sitting on an existing white Netgear router, the white Netgear switch makes an ideal extension. Nuff said!
