Nerina Pallot - Dear Frustrated Superstar (CD 2001)

After buying Nerina Pallots' Fires album I wanted to hear more.... Dear Frustrated Superstar did not disappoint with infectiously catchy songs and a voice to die for. Nerina is an upcoming superstar I'm sure were gonna hear a lot more about. Also: check out the Delerium track Truly which was written by Nerina and again features her great vocals.

If you enjoyed Fires, this you will love this! Although from 2001, it is fantastic! Better than Fires even! One of the best female vocalists/song writers we have to offer who deserves much more recognition than she receives. Tracks are full of emotion and take you far away into the album. I can't pick a favourite, they are all great, especially "If I Know You", "Rainbow", "Jump", "My Last Tango". buy buy buy!!! Also try Colbie Caillat!

After seeing Nerina in concert recently we were fortunate enough to meet her afterwards when we asked her about any other material she had recorded. Up until then, we had no idea that there was an earlier CD, but then went straight to ebay to buy a copy. This CD is excellent and we wonder how we missed it when it was first released. If it had been pushed more by the record company, it would have been a hit in 2001, but because of it's lack of publicity she almost gave up for good. Thankfully, this didn't happen and 'Fires' came along.
There are no 'fillers' on Superstar and some songs will get into your head after a couple of plays leaving you singing all day. 'My Last Tango' is amazing.
Amazon has the re-release advertised with a slightly different cover and has 2 extra tracks including '57 flavours, (the height of bad behavour)', This is not available yet, but when it is, we will be buying it just for that track which was originally available on the CD single 'Alien' but very hard to find and a bid of £20-£30 needed if you want to win the auction. (This might change when the re-release is out).
Hopefully, there will be a third album which we will buy on the day of release and if she does another tour we really recommend that you go, as apart from having one of the best female voices we have ever heard, she is very entertaining between songs.
What a talent and what a Superstar!!

Have her second album which I love and wanted to hear more of her, I wasn't disappointed as I love this album. I couldn't find it in the shops so ebayed it! It was a good price as well.

I bought Nerina Pallots 'Fires' and wasn't at first very enamoured with it, but several plays stripped away the apparent pop veneer and revealed some enchanting melodies and very powerful songwriting. A search for other cds by her revealed DFS, an album released some time before Fires and an apparent chart failure. Even the record company had stopped producing it, so I suspected it must be either very bad or very different. I picked up a copy on a promo cd and discovered that it was definitely the latter - significantly different to the folk/rock/alternative sound of her popular release. This said, all Nerina Pallots songwriting and musical skills were certainly present and although Dear Frustrated Superstar could be said to be lighter in theme to Fires, and probaly more mainstream, there are some absolutely beautiful songs on it. The first four or five tracks are good, but unremarkable, but then she seems to get into the mindset that would later produce Fires and some darkly weighted lyrics and balladic harmonies begin to appear. My personal favourite would be My Last Tango, a surpising mix of a subtle tango rhythm and some soaring melodies. If you enjoyed Fires for her music and enchanting voice, you'll enjoy DFS. If however youre looking for some kind of lyrical message such as that contained in Everyones Gone to War, i'd look elsewhere. A definite sleeper hit that sure to grow on you like flowers.

I bought this because I love her second cd Fire and wanted more. In my opinion this cd (very hard to get hold of I might add) is miles better.
Songs like Rainbow are amazing, I listen to this cd more than Fires now. I just wish I had bought it years ago..
