Navman NavPix N40i Car GPS Receiver

The Navman N40i is simple to use and shows an excellent display of your route. The audio directions are clear and easy to understand. I particularly like the fact that it comes with pre-installed Safety Camera locations which can be invaluable when in an area that is new to you. I also like the inbuilt camera for taking pictures of places you have been. Just click on a picture stored in the Navman and it will take you right to the spot the photo was taken. This is particularly useful to find your way back to your holiday hotel, for instance. You can download other people's pictures from Navman online and store them on your Navman, or share your photos with others. All in all, it is well worth the money and a treat to have at my disposal. I fully recommend a Navman NavPix™ N40i.

I bought this after my Navman icn530 got stolen from my car. Its not bad however the menu options are no where near as good as the icn 530. The box also doesnt include the leather case and remote control which the icn 530 came with as standard. After purchasing the remote seperatly you cant select any of the menu options with the remote which was possible previously. The camera is an ok feature but isnt really that useful. The directions are fairly good using 2006 mapping data but there are a few errors which try to take you down muddy footpaths while driving!

I purchased my N40i as a factory refurb with 6 months warranty as I was not sure if I would make full use of a sat-nav and wanted to try one out without shelling out an enormous amount of money. I must say that I am impressed. It does everything it says on the box very well. I also bought a new T1 traffic module at the same time. For a one-off payment of £18.00 (ie no hidden subscription costs), it provides me with up to date news on hold-ups, road closures and detours. It recalculates a journey if it finds a traffic event on my planned route without making a fuss.

When I was sold the unit, it came without the installation disks (which is why it was so cheap) but I was told these were downloadable from the website - they're not. However, I contacted Navman's UK customer care and once I proved I had bought the unit legitimately (from a recognised dealer), they provided me with a full set of disks for no charge. Now that's what I call service!

My wife gets car-sick if she tries to read maps. This unit has already reduced the stress of travelling to unknown areas and improved our marital relationships - I wish I could say the same for all bits of technology!

PROs - easy to set up, directions easy to follow including three different options for having the directions displayed, recalculates the route very quickly if you veer off course, cheap traffic add-on, customer care (see above), easy to use computer software for installing Points of Interest etc., built-in camera which enables you to take (1.3 Mp) images which then are mapped on to the location they were taken (and you can upload and download images from the NavPix website), well known TeleAtlas mapping system, pre-loaded speed camera data which can be updated (for a fee), SD card slot, reliability (so far).

CONs - takes as long as three minutes to find your location (which I don't find a problem), doesn't have all the latest bells and whistles.

Conclusion - if you want a cheap reliable SatNav which has the added feature of NavPix and is easily and cheaply expandable for traffic events, you can't go far wrong with the N40i.

I have had three GPS units thus far and read the above before deciding to try this. I was CERTAINLY not disappointed! It only in 18 months once sent me the wrong way! And that was I think because I have not paid to update the maps!
Works in France to all five digits on the Postcode and even finds one off addresses like "the small house at the end of the long stoney lane" (that is a like for like translation!) I have NO hesitation in giving this unit a 10 out of 10 rating! And have just bought another to replace my old one which someone needed more than I! Just this WILL go with me when I leave the car!

this is a great start for someone entering the sat-nav market.
although obviously a few years out of date now, it does compare very well with its contemporaries (and in fact was tested by the gadget show and came second in their testing).
Buying this item from ebay was simply a great deal and it has proved very easy to use (even for a novice such as myself) and has not -as yet- led me wrong.

i would point out though that a second hand item like this means that the maps are out of date and if you require up-to-date maps you could spend almost as much as i payed for the item to upgrade.
This argument could be made for ALL second had sat-nav's though so just be careful.

PROs- ease of use, nice form factor, specific buttons for petrol stations, very quick to get you 'back on track' if you take a wrong turn. digital camera for points-of-interest that can be navigated to.

CONs- small screen 3.5inch, really needs to be used with the car charger for long journeys. Not many others i have found

Altogether a great purchase and one i would happily do so again.

This is a pukka bit of kit, it does its job perfectly, without being super complicated.Couldnt be more happy.

Great bit of Kit,you can expand on it with SD card to down load Europe maps that are supply on Disc and Blue Tooth For phone and Traffic alerts plus take pictures of your desertion and it gives you postcode address and it is easy to use
