Nanny McPhee (DVD)

Fantastic film for all the family. If you thought you had disruptive children then think again. Nanny Mcphee is almost like a modern day Mary poppins. She arrives to sort out a very badly behaved clan of children, and she does so in a fantastic way, NO bag, just a big stick lol. I don't want to give too much away, as it really would ruin it. It great for all the family, very entertaining, with no boring/slow bits. The very end is a little far fetched, but buy the end of the film you don't care. Super children and family end the film.

i loved this film. i saw it with a large group of 16-19 year olds and we all thought the same. Nanny McPhee really is a great family film and wont disapoint any member.typically you can tell what will happen in many scenes yet its still quirky, fun and exciting and brought back great magical memories of childhood for me.
a definate must have for any family!

Unlike the iconic Mary Poppins (1964), Nanny McPhee is far from "perfect in every way". Still Emma Thompson is a treat as the eponymous childminder. She also penned this adaptation of Christianna Brand's Nurse Matilda book series about a brood of unruly children who meet their match in a mysterious nanny. Seven years after Waking Ned, director Kirk Jones takes the helm with a quirky sensibility that helps make up for a lack of memorable magic tricks.

When McPhee taps her walking cane strange things happen, but sadly nothing as jaw dropping as Poppins bringing a chalk drawing to life or having an army of toy soldiers pack themselves away. Instead the Brown children (the most of stubborn of all played by Thomas Sangster) are chastised in comparatively mundane fashion, like being pinned to their beds after faking sickness. It's hardly action-packed stuff, but the dynamics between the children, McPhee and their widowed father (Colin Firth) make for an involving, poignant fable.

"PANTOMIME SILLINESS"

Naturally the children are missing the attention of their grief-stricken father and, in an intriguing subplot, he's also blind to the affections of servant girl Evangeline (Kelly Macdonald). Playing the moneyed aunt who forces Brown to remarry (or lose the family house), Angela Lansbury is brilliantly batty while Imelda Staunton is a picture of pantomime silliness as the Browns' fretful cook. Amid the chaos, Thompson provides a solid anchor, occasionally harrumphing her disapproval but otherwise eerily still. In a sense McPhee is the anti-Poppins with her ugly snaggletooth and sour demeanour, but her good intentions are never in doubt. She's sure to keep the kids happy for at least an hour and a half.

Children & Adults will Love it. My Children have watched it over and over again.
Nanny McPhee is every parents dream Nanny, with the power to control and discipline even the most ill-behaved child!
The Children in this film have managed to drive away 17 previous Nannies. Can Nanny McPhee Change all that with her Magical Powers and show these Children how to behave???
Nanny McPhee puts the very respectable Mary Poppins to shame.

Mary Poppins is great and so is nanny McPhee, but you would bemistaken if you think the two films are anything like eachother. Emma Thompson did a great job and the boy who played Simon was brilliant. I did find the snaggle tooth and warts a little gross and I don't see why they were necessary for the part at all. A nice ending and some clever twists.

This movie is great for all the family young and old, A film after my own heart having 7 kids myself, it made mine look like little angels! Great story line that with an ending that really touches the heart and even the adults may well up a bit!

i loved the price of the item,it was a cheap treat for my kids to watch on their dvds when they desired it.all the family gather around the pc and pick a treat from ebay! a ritual if you will,it happened to be nanny mc phee dvd.the feedback was nearlly 100% and feedback comments were very good,otherwise i would not have purchased it.i liked the fact i had options to buy it now,with paypal or cheque(which i chose)or by p/o.it was shipped within a day or so,packaged perfectly,played beautifully and i will visit the favourite seller again shortly.

I wans not expecting much when I bought this DVD. I expected a remake of Mary Poppins with a few special effects added in. My children wanted it so I got it. To my surprise It was great, It had a Similiar story line but was so much better. The story is based around a Mr Brown who has recently lost his wife leaving him to bring up the kids. Nanny McPhee comes along after the kids have got rid of every nanny available. And starts to teach them manners among other things. I won't ruin the film for you but I do recommend you watch it. Its well worth it. I have watched it more than once now And the kids can't stop watching it. It is a great family film for all ages.

my children loved this film. its got that great make believe feel about it with lots of exciting swists to it. i bought this as id heard a few people commenting on how funny it was . and i agree it defenitely was that. i loved the end where the dad gets the girl that he soooooooooo deserves and the children turn into perfectly behaved kids .

i brought this film because my kids wanted to watch it. after watching it we thought that it was a great family film, the way the film was made with its magical expectations was 100%. would reccommend this film for the family to watch together.

What a great film! I thought my son would like it as he loves comical films (which he did) but I also loved it so much I watched it three times in about 5 days! Very quick pace, no boring bits at all. New surprises around every corner. Plenty of comedy - the rather short-sighted aunt mistakes a dressed up donkey on it's hind legs for one of her neices; an undercurrant of romance between the father and the maid, which helps lead the film to a hilarious climax; and a sprinkling of magic to round it off. You remember the film as colourful and exciting. You plunge into the story quickly at the beginning, rather than spending the first half wondering what is going on and the finale climaxes, rather than flops, with a bumpy ride in between. Great acting from a great cast, highly recommended for all ages.

Based on the "Nurse Matilda" books by Christianna Brand comes the story of Nanny McPhee. Cedric Brown (Colin Firth) is now a widow with seven ill-behaved children who've already chased away 17 nannies. But when a mysterious voice tells Cedric to hire Nanny McPhee (Emma Thompson), she arrives at the Brown home and the kids learn to behave properly. But when Great-Aunt Adelaide (Angela Lansbury) tells Cedric he must be married by the end of the month or she'll separate the children, he tries to find women, but the children run them away. And Nanny McPhee tells Simon (Thomas Sangster), the eldest, that he will face the consequences, so the kids go to Selma Quickly (Celia Imrie) and admit what they did and ask to give their father a second chance and they will be married. Will the kids really find the perfect woman for their father?

I bought Nanny McPhee (DVD) after taking my grandaughters to see it at the cinema. We enjoyed it so much that I thought we could watch it again and again on their visits. The film certainly works when I have to remind my grandaughters to say please and thankyou, I just say Nanny McPhee. All part of the fun of being a grandparent.

love the film..its the sort of film you can watch over and over again..fab for any age ..i bought it as my daughter had mentioned that it was great and she was right too...

my kids saw this on telly and really wanted to see it again, it has now become a firm favourite with them and they watch it several times a week!, my 3 year old likes pretending to be nanny mcphee

brilliant film.and very entertaining the children loved it and so did i.i would watch it again and again.

My son thought it was really funny and i liked that it was abit like mary poppins but a not so nice nanny.
