My Own Private Idaho (DVD 2005)

Everyone is raving about Milk at the moment and this is one of Gus Van Sant's earlier works. River Phoenix's amazing portrayal of a gay prostitute prone to falling asleep on the job adds both humour and depth whilst Keanu Reaves provides the cynical edge and callous betrayal is acted so well.

I love this film for the fantastic performances from both Keanu Reeves and River Phoenix. In roles very different to their usual films and all the more exciting for that. It was in watching this film I realised Keanu Reeves is an incredible actor and not just someone who's films I enjoy watching. It always reminds me more than watching any other River film what a tragedy his death was. This film demonstrates what a huge acting talent he had. The film is surreal in places and requires concentration to follow the plot. If you put in the effort this film is a Gem. This was one of my favourite videos and I am now glad to be able to add this DVD to my collection.
