For the money I think you will be hard pressed to find a subwoofer that offers this kind of performance and build quality. It is happy in both sealed and ported enclosures, I've tried both and after a bit of trial and error now use two in a 4cuft cabinet tuned to 22hz and the bass is quite simply astonishing!

I bought this Mutant MT1205 Subwoofer to use in a live sound situation and not a car. I thought it would be fun just to experiment and build one (or two to be precise). I realised there are so many old speakers that come up on Ebay and go for next to nothing. I bought a pair of old Wharfedale Dovedales. The Dovedales are a big box roughly 60cms by 33cm by 30 (very roughly) and solidly made as they are decidedly old school. The drivers in there are the same size so no cutting involved just a quick drill to reposition the holes. Well I have it hooked up right now to a PA amp but on the subwoofer output of my Sony home cinema amp. So plenty of current if needs be. Oh and I have put a sizeable amount of insulation (the recycled plastic bottle stuff) as wadding. I guess it's half filled with the wadding now inside. This is just to cut down the resonances as you get a bit of overhang to the sound without it. You can experiment it's fun. So what's it all sound like? Absolutely stupid!!! I mean that in the best possible way. The bass is nuts. £26 for two subs? Crazy. The level of crazy I'm talking about is the same depth at least as a Paradigm PS1000. Google search or go to audioreview.com and read up what people think of that sub. I used to have one so I know it, and I used to sell them too. I think I will get some more before people realise the bargain that this MT1205 is I really think it's incredible (I have Kef reference Standard speakers which go low and then lower still so I know bass). Buy several and give them to your aunt and your best mate for Christmas!!!
