Muse - Showbiz (CD 2000)

As muse have evolved, their music has become more grandiose and show offy, but still very good. However, I think on their debut album they're at their best. I can listen to the whole album without skipping a track, unlike on any of their more recent albums. Fillip is an underrated classic, and maybe my favourite muse song ever(definitely better than Britney's do somethin'). I hope one day they return to their roots, and rediscover what made them popular in the first place.

The first song I heard by muse was infact muscle museum, although I didn't know this at the time (it was many years ago, quite probably when the song was first released), and I did infact not know it was that song until a few month ago when I bought this album. Having only really listened to songs from the albums "origin of symmetry" and "absolution" - the newer of the muse albums -, "showbiz" took me by surprise. Although it was their first album for general release, and as a result didn't sell as many as their albums do today, it includes some of my favourite songs. In original muse style, the songs are catchy, replayable, and upbeat... in a strange, muse kind of way.

If you are a fan of muse, but haven't really heard any of their debut songs then this album may take you by surprise. At first I didn't like some of the songs, they were different to what I was used to hearing. But after playing the album through a few times I began to appreciate the sheer brilliance of Matt Bellamy's song and music writing skills (alongside everyone else that took part in the production). After listening to the album for the second or third time (and while tapping my feet and head-rocking to the music) I finally realised why muse have made it so far, their debut album was excellent! What better publicity is their then having an excellent first album, people were going to flock to the shops for their next album... and they did.

This album should be seen as turning point of the 90's, a new band had arrived, and they were here to stay.. and they have stayed!

Showbiz is Muse's first LP, and there are a few rough edges to their sound, but that's what makes it so refreshing - they haven't been polished and presented to the public as a packaged act. Songs like Sunburn, Muscle Museum (So called because muscle and museum are above and below "muse" in the dictionary) and Uno jump out at you as you listen to the album. Sunburn, with it's creepy piano arpeggios and soaring lyrics, Muscle Museum with it's chunky bass riff and effects-laden guitar, and Uno with it's salsa-esque beat all make the tracks completely new but somehow familiar at the same time. The Radiohead comparisons aren't applicable - they have their own sound, and an incredible talent. An album not to be missed.

Having already bought HAARP, Absolution, Origin of Symmetry and Black Holes and Revelations, I thought I would purchase their first album, Shobiz. It is really a great collection of songs, Muse at their raw best. Especially the lovely ballad Unintended. A must for all Muse fans.

Good product, delivered quickly. Good condition to. Actual songs on the CD are quite good - haven't heard them before, but have several other Muse CD's so thats why I bought it. Would recommend.

Brilliant first album from the world beating live band MUSE. As a first album it is more raw and less layered than other albums, but it is also more personal. It contains some songs which are still favourites today such as Sunburn, Muscle Muse and poignant Unintended.

While "Showbiz" does not recieve as much praise as the albums "Origin Of Symmetry" or "Absolution", it is still a wonderful album in it's own right. The album includes tracks that are often requested live, such as "Sunburn", "Cave" and "Muscle Museum". Though they were only very young when they released the album, them group's talent shows just as much as it does on later albums. Matt Bellamy's vocals, guitar and keyboard work is especially apparent.
"Showbiz" is an excellent record with a bit more diversity than the other two Muse records. In my opinion, "Showbiz" is just as good as Muse's other two records and makes just as good a listen as any.

Perfect Debut for the perfect band. This album is a must have along with every other muse album this one in particular has a large bold sound which gets better everytime you listen. The album has instant favourites and growers which will in turn be your favourites!
You must purchase this album if you are a rock music fan! or any fan for anything ever!!
