Morphy Richards 48285 Cool Touch Bread Machine

This is a pretty good breadmaker; loaves are well-formed and have a good crust, and the blade comes out easily and leaves a relatively small hole in the loaf. It doesn't have a hopper for automatically adding extra ingredients, like the top of the range Panasonic models, but if you can live without that it's a reasonable machine.

Having said that, the first one I had stripped a gear after about six months and had to be replaced. So far the replacement is fine, but I've only had it a couple of months. Bear in mind that the mechanism has to work VERY hard - when it's kneading bread it's bashing up to a pound and a half of dough around several times a second, and the whole thing shakes about quite violently.

My advice on this would be to think carefully before buying this (or any other breadmaker) second hand or without a full warranty - they take a hammering.

Update - more than a year later this is still working well. The non-stick lining of the bread tin is still intact. There was some minor darkening of the plastic around the lid after I made cheese bread, but it cleaned up reasonably well with a plastic scouring pad. Still recommended.

i bought this bread maker about 9 months ago and after getting used to homemade bread i have to say i will never go back to shop bought bread again, yeuch!
it makes lovely loaves and after a while you get confident. i add chilli chips to tomato bread and i mix white and brown flour together to give a lovely semi brown bread. i also bought some flour improver and this makes bread nice and fluffy...it also helps it stay fresh and soft for longer (obviously homemade bread doesn't keep so long but at least you are not eating lots of chemicals)
my favourite is toast from both white and brown bread, its delicious.
to sum up, when i bought this i thought i might make the odd loaf but i use it every day and all my work colleagues are in the queue for a loaf! I would have another of this model in a minute, it is great. very easy to follow recipes, very quick (only takes a couple of minutes to add ingredients, press button and thats it!)
if i had to moan about something it would be the little hole it leaves from the blade when baking.

This is a really simple to use bread making machine, You can make lots of different breads from standard white to granary, wholemeal, french bread even rolls. We bought it so we could have fresh home baked bread any time we wanted.

Following the recipes which come with the breadmaker is easy, and the loaves turn out perfectly every time. The texture of some of the loaves was not as expected - the basic white was a little too airy for my liking, but the wholemeal was much better, and the sandwich loaf best of all, although very sweet (it has 3tbsps of sugar in the recipe) Will need to try some more bread recipes without so much salt/sugar/milk powder. No dislikes except the mixing blade sticks in the bottom of the bread & leaves a hole. Easy to follow instructions for programming - easy to clean and not too big. A little noisy when mixing/kneading but only for a few minutes. Overall very pleased.
