  Morphy Richards Compact Bread Maker.

With this machine, there is no more saying,'I don't have the time to make my own bread'. It took me about five minutes to load all the ingredients and I had fresh bread for my lunch. Nothing to watch, nothing to do at all, just plug in, switch on and leave it until it tells you it is finished.
The bonus is that there are no additives or preservatives in the bread, so it is a lot healthier for you, that is if you don't eat it all in one go, like I could have done.
Being able to make cakes is another bonus, I haven't tried this yet but will be doing in the future.
The only thing that I could say against it, is that it is rather larger than I imagined it to be, but well worth the space it takes up on the worktop.
I decided to purchase this because of the rising price of bread and an increasing dislike of the taste of bought bread.

makes excellent bread but put the setting on light otherwise the loaf is too dark. wanted something to make fresh bread without having to trek to the supermarket about 3 mls away and it delivers. Ideal for small kitchens, its light and small enough to fit in cupboards. can recommend this product highly.

Quality brand and easy to use.

Bought as a replacement for a "no name" breadmaker. This new one is easier to use, has more settings and feels very solidly made. On the downside, it does not make as big a loaf as the old one (not really a problem for us) and some of the programs are longer (nearly 4 hours for French bread) so you need to plan well in advance. Otherwise, faultless and highly recommended.

Most used gadget in my kitchen

People told me I would use this a couple of times then it would end up in a cupboard but I'm delighted to say I have used it every day since I bought it. Experimenting with different types of bread is great fun and you know exactly what it contains i.e. no high levels of salt or preservatives. This does not do big loaves either so perfect for a small family. Nothing better than freshly baked bread in the morning. Bakes perfect bread too.

Great breadmaker, for bread, cakes & jam
Review created: 12/11/09

I nearly purchased this item elsewhere, but then came across Morphy Richards' ebay outlet and decided to purchase it direct from them, as it was considerably cheaper.

The manual is very comprehensive, tells you how to set it up, how to care for the breadmaker in terms of cleaning, with full instructions on how to make the various recipes and troubleshooting. There is a good selection of recipes for different types of bread, cakes and a couple of jam recipes too. Also, it details each stage of the cooking process and how long each stage takes.

The quickest setting is just under 3 hours, which includes mixing the ingredients, proofing, kneading and baking. The first loaf was lovely and so soft. Also, the crust wasn't hard but quite soft, unlike when I bake my own bread, which always comes out with a really hard crust.

The breadmaker also has a delayed timer, so you add the ingredients to the pan and then set the timer, up to 13 hours in advance. There is also a keep warm setting, so that when the bread has finished baking, it will keep warm for 60 minutes, unless you press the stop button. It was absolutely lovely waking up to a fresh loaf.

The quantities in the recipes are very specific and the manual strongly recommends that you absolutely adhere to these quantities, so it comes equipped with a plastic measuring jug and also two measuring spoons. The one small drawback is that the quantities are measured in cups, an American measurement, but there a conversion chart at the rear of the manual, which just means flicking from the recipe page to the chart.

There are two things that are important. The first, is that before using the breadmaker for the first time, do a test run, as detailed in the manual. When I did this, it emitted a small puff of smelly smoke, but this is normal. Then I used it to bake bread, which turned out perfectly. And secondly, always add the ingredients in the order listed, never add them randomly and use the specified quantities. Again, this is all explained in the manual.

I am really happy with my purchase and I would highly recommend it.

Bought a Hovis Granary mix from the supermarket, just added water and a little butter and had THE most gorgeous loaf at the end of it. So simple.

very good with the item it say wot his does on the box very happy with it. The reason i decided to buy this item because i wanted to able to make bigger loafs than the bread maker that made 2 small loafs. The other reason was because it smaller and fits in tight corners amd is very quiet. It was a very good purchase for the price . The other reason i brought this item was because my husband and kids likes pizza's and it will make it easier to make the dough. And also to make jam for all of us. Thanks.

I was so fed up with my bread going off so quickly from the supermarket I decided to buy a bread maker. This bread maker was on sale near my home so I could get it ASAP. It has usefull programs that I will use and takes up hardly any room. Its brilliant my first loaf was a success and it so easy to use it takes me five minutes to chuck the ingredients in and in 3 hours its done. One of the best things I have ever bought on ebay and it helped that the seller was really nice.
