Monty Python Collection (DVD 2004)

The Monty Python movies are absolutely brilliant and outlandishly funny and each movie is great.
I need not go into what happens in each one but only review them and each is a thrill.

'Now for something completely different' are a bunch of sketches each one better than the last,

'The Life of Brian' is uproarious and full of comical 'winks' at religion.

'The Meaning of Life' is also a blast except the prologue which I found, well to be frank, rubbish. Apart from this prologue (which you can skip anyway) the rest of the movie is full of larks and is frolicsome.

'The Quest for the Holy Grail' is by far in my own opinon the best of the four and is filled with convival and jovial scenes that had my eyes watering. Just to mention a few 'the black knight', 'a killer rabbit' and 'Lancelots quest' were truly rollicking and even the beginning titles were side-splitting.

Monty Python's songs such as 'Always look on the bright side of life', the Lumberjack song and the Galaxy song are all great memorable tunes and I can't help but sing along to them.

All the members of the 'Flying Circus' are brilliant ludicrous actors and writers who in their own rights geniuses to themselves.
Anyone who buys this box set won't be dissapointed and well if they are than they can never truly apprciate British comedey at it finest.

I was first made aware of the superb Monty Python film The Life of Brian when I saw a recording of it on VHS. Since then it has become one of my favourite films. After seeing I could buy The Life of Brian plus 3 other films, The Holy Grail, The Meaning of Life and Now For Something Completely Different going for a very reasonable price I just had to buy it. I eagerly awaited it's arrival, first off I watched The Holy Grail and that is equally a classic. John Cleese is superb throughout and I would recommend it to everyone. Even the bits you would normally class as 'silly' seem hilarious.

I was left feeling a bit dissapointed with most of The Meaning of Life and Now For Something Completely Different. I think this was down to the fact that it was a bit before my time. Never the less there are still some classic gags like when Cleese goes to buy a parrott...

I would recommend this box set for those who like classic comedy. It's probably not the best for younger viewers though as you won't understand all of it.

Even if you dislike Meaning of Life and Now For Something Completely Different this boxset of worth having just for The Life of Brian and The Holy Grail!

A boxed set classic - all four of Monty Pythons' films in one pack.

The lesser known, original'Completely Different' is more like the sketches we know and love - but a long format. The Meaning of Life holds together, but is not as funny as the others. The main two were hilarious and controversial on release, but in the cold light of the 21st century are not quite a funny as I remember them. Holy Grail is a feat of casting - G Chapman was on the sauce - and of mixing history with comedy/musical. Life of Brian is on reflection nowhere near as blasphemous as made out in the 70s, but simply a satire. VG+

I am a fan so these are excelent to me. If you are not a python fan dont buy the set until you have tested that they will hit your funny bone Its only economical if you know you will watch them. You can watch these with company or as an evening alone entertainment - but they certainly benefit from not having someone with you who is not amused - cos the humour is bizare and you either love or hate what is being offered. However if you do love Monty Python then these are the best way to continue being amused.

- And Now For Something Completely different is a terrifically funny collage of material taken from the first three seasons of the TV show. Made for American TV, this took most of the famous skits (notable exceptions being the Spanish Inquisition and the Ministry of Silly walks) and animations, and turned them into a wonderful stream-of-consciousness movie which is very reminiscent of the original TV show.

- Monthy Python and the Holy Grail is THE legendary movie! A beautiful pastiche of all the Arthurian legends with twists that only the Pythons could conceive (limbless loony knights, a witch hunt involving ducks, Knights who say meaningless yet terrifying word, and a killer rabbit, for starters) this has aged amazingly well, and still has teeth as sharp as the rabbit.

- Monty Python's Life of Brian documents the rise and fall of a man mistaken for a messiah (but I didn't need to tell you that, did I?). It declares all out war on religion, committees, and the gullibility of the needy masses. And, or course, Roman grammar. Recently voted the funniest film of all time for the umpteenth time, especially by cheesemakers, this one really delivers the laughs for those who like their comedy as irreverent as it is lunatic.

- Monty Python's Meaning of Life is an odd duck - part comedy, part musical, part pirate tale and part liver transplant documentary! A loose association of skits (many of which are absolute gold - a wafer-thin mint, anyone?) it is let down by a poor ending and a general lack of substance. The only one of the bunch that's less than excellent, this is a downbeat end to an amazing creative output for the world's funniest comedy team.

If you don't have this, ignore the silly price tag and BUY this. You need it! You want it!

Just mind out for the rabbit.

I bought this set as a gift for my parents for xmas, I already have a set too & think it is absolutely hilarious. I love the strange, random humor & the Python crew are genius!! My fav film from the set is The Holy Grail - the knights who say "neeee" - brilliance!! if you don't get offended easily & enjoy strange humor, this box set is an excellent buy!! GENIUS!

Excellent set of dvds, they were bought as a present but after seeing them I had to have a set of my own!! They are hilarious!

I brought the DVD for a very good friend of mine who is german. Who lives in Erding (Germany) my son lives in munich, he told me the friend is over the moon with DVD.

There's no doubt that this a great value collection (£14 for four films is almost always good value). Two bona fide five star classics (Holy Grail and - especially - the Life of Brian are the pinnacle of Python's achievements), plus a decent collection of classic sketeches from the TV show (And Now For Something Completely Different) and their fair-to-middling final film, The Meaning of Life. All four films in individual plastic cases boxed together - a smart addition to any collection.

The only niggle is The Meaning of Life dvd. Grail has by far the best set of extras: a whole second disc devoted to them, so I'm sure this is the definitive set for that film. Brian has, like Grail, been remastered, but only has one documentary as an extra (admittedly it is a good one, filmed on set). I can live with that though. ANFSCD has no extras, but has good picture quality as compensation, and several trailers for other Python-related films. And as it isn't really a film in it's own right, I can live with that as well.

But Meaning of Life has a 2-disc special edition set out there already. Yet the version in this collection is a single disc, with no extras and no remastered picture. It's not even anamorphic, despite the claims of the back cover. And the chaptering is basic, only a few throughout the entire film. A shame then, as the inclusion of the special edition rather than this duffer would raise it to five star status for me. At least it's not the best film they did. And it's probably better than any VHS version (just about).
All in all a worthy purchase that will keep me entertained for years to come!

this is a classic collection, a real favourite ! a must buy for any Monty Python fan, great fun and a true classic in every sense of the word.

Good set of Dvd's, contained all the monty python films including 'and now for something completly different'. Product was in good condition. So overall i was very happy with it. Much cheaper than purchasing all the individual films on there own.

Why go to the high street stores to shop for certain products when the service is cheaper and direct to your home.

There's either a lot or nothing to say about Monty P. It's genius or it's crap. I think the former. It was film making of such distinction, fun and satire that it's like will be hard to find again. I got them quite cheaply but would have paid full price. If only Blue-Ray wasn't so expensive I'd buy them again.

I bought the Monty Python Film Collection because they are timeless classics which can now watch over again on a recently bought 50 inch plasma TV with sound suround. These types of films never date and are always worth buying. Remember the classic line - He's not the messiah, he's a very naughty boy! Fantastic!!

I found these dvds on amazon for around £30 and i had never seen them before but they were recommended by a friend but i found them with this seller at a cheap price of £12!. I found that to be very reasonable plus it was free postage for a brand new unopened dvd collecion!. The dvd's came very fast and i was very happy with the packaging and watched them staright away!. A Very honest seller and very funny movies.

I bought the item for a present and was not told that two of the dvd's had been used. I normally wouldn't bother about that sort of thing but it was a christmas present and I would have chosen another box set should the details be more exact as to the exact condition.
