I was glad to find this as a great reminder of my childhood, but its digitaly enhanced on DVD format and just adds to the nostalga.

) CONSISTANT WITH MANY OF MY MEMORIES OF THIS SHOW AS A CHILD.CLASSIC DEPICTION OF BUDDHA AND A FACT FINDING JOURNEY THAT IS BOTH ENTERTAINING AND EDUCATIONAL.

Just as good as when I was a kid. But why is a 12? It used to be on BBC2 at 6pm?? Well worth getting though. Where are they now?

If like me, you find the nature of monkey irrepressible then you need this in your life.
Tripitaka, Pigsy, Sandy and of course Monkey all on the epic journey to the west.
I, on a visit to the Wild Goose Pagoda in Xi'an, found out that the journey to the west was an actual event immortalised into legend in typical Chinese fashion.
This was made in China with a Japanese cast and dubbed by the BBC.
I have been told an Australian company is/has remade the series but I have no other information other than this.
This has strong Buddhist ethics attached, so if you are of the former communist block you probably have never even heard of this.
If this is the case and you have an interest in religion it's worth a look
But if you just want to (like me) pretend it Saturday in the 80's it's definitely worth a look.
Monkey is the representation of mankind and not to be confused Hanuman! who is cool!
I've just spotted the full series so I'm off to buy that too.

monkey !see all the first 13 episodes of monkey excellent but there is a hum to the sound which is more noticable in some episodes than others
