The Mist (DVD)

This is a Stephen King adaptation with a difference and the difference is that the film is better than the story that inspired it.

The Mist was originally published in 1980 as a short story in the horror anthology The Skeleton Crew.

The problem with the original novella was that it was written by King at a time when he was, in his own words, 'forcing the words on to the page' and frankly, it showed.

Although the story itself was good, the characters were weak, the narrative poor and the ending left you sure that your copy of the book must have a few pages missing.

Frank Darabont, Director and Screenwriter of the Green Mile and The Shawshank Redemption, has excelled his own previously impossibly high standards.

This film is so good that Stephen King himself approves it even though his original narrative forms little more than the foundations and the ending has been completely changed.

And ironically, the ending alone makes this one of the 'must see' films of the year so far.

But that's not just my opinion - here's what King himself had to say;

'Frank wrote a new ending that I loved. It is the most shocking ending ever and there should be a law passed stating that anybody who reveals the last 5 minutes of this film should be hung from their neck until dead.'

In a nutshell - don't miss this one.
