This is genuinely one of the best films i have seen for a long time. It is superbly acted all round, and makes brilliant use of the locations really allowing the viewer to understand and appreciate the beauty of the Lake District. Ordinarily i would have been more sceptical of the casting of an American actress in a role such as Beatrix Potter. However, Renee Zellweger is such a good actress and embraces this role so well that i have no qualms in this area here, although i did read one comment which said Emily Watson (Millie) would have made a better Beatrix - and am in complete agreement that she too would have been wonderful ( i mean aren't there enough British actresses to go round?!), but as i say i couldn't fault Renee Zellweger either. One thing that was nice to see was a good British supporting cast, not one of whom put a foot wrong. The story was brilliantly scripted too, with a good blend of fact, fiction, innocence, romance and fantasy touches. The film just really left me smiling - its a great reminder of what we go to the cinema for.

Awww now isnt this lovely, i have to say i live in the area this was shot,
the director really captured the landscape perfect and the story is lovely.
It has its serious bits, its funny bits and its sad bits, its one of the few films recently that id let my children and my grandma watch at the same time, perfect for all the family!

It's an enchanting tale of the loves and life of Beatrix Potter set within fabulous scenery of the Lake District.Ewan McGregor was superb and all other cast members supported beautifully, the scenery was spectacular but the film lacked a depth it would have had if there had been more detail about how Beatrix's younger life impacted on her later life path,there is a lot more than this film portays, after all this woman from age 15 to 30 daily wrote in her journal in code.
As a inspirational and exceptional woman of her time , a victoian naturalist and conservation pioneer i think she deserved more detailed portrayal of her character.

I bought this Beatrix Potter DVD for my grandaughter aged 5 - as it is unavailable in many public shops, and that is the reason for my previous purchases of DVD's related to Beatrix Potter on Ebay - my grandaughter now knows and loves all her stories and was given a special treat visit to Beatrix Potter World in the Lake Districts - a perfect gift. I will continue for further items on Ebay - A PERFECT PLACE- Thank you.

I have learnt a valuable lesson buying this item. It was described as new and Region 2, maybe I was naive knowing the current shop value. It was obvious when I received it that it was not the genuine article by the fact that the disc facing was a totally different colour to the front of the package and appeared to have been stuck on. When I tried to watch it my DVD player kept showing "No Read". I was refused a refund unless I left a positive feedback first. Needless to say I was unhappy about this and after several emails I left a neg. Unfortunately this has given me an undeserved negative feedback and lowered my rating. So now I don't have a working DVD, I have lost my money and my feedback profile has been spoilt. I shall be very wary of buying on Ebay in future.

I decided to buy this dvd after seeing the tv advertising and as a child I grew up reading the Beatrix Potter books and has great affinity towards them. So I was very interested in knowing the woman behind the books. This film is hugely entertaining and I was not disappointed!!

This is a true story about the writer Beatrix Potter about how it came about to have her books published, and her involvement with all the people around her. Her publishers, family and friends. Shows life in London in those times and the contrast with the Lake District. The film brings out feelings of love, sadness, and a whole mix of emotions.
On the whole it is an easy viewing film. Suitable for family and sentimental vewing.
We decided that we should buy it having seen it at the cinema, and we have watched it several times subsequently on the DVD. The extras were facinating with the interviews and clips added to the DVD enjoyment.

This is one of those films that you remember forever. I spent the whole film with either a huge smile on my face or tears rolling down my cheeks. Superb acting (casting Renee was sheer inspiration) and beautifully filmed. No-one, in their right mind, could not love this movie.

I decided to purchase this as I have the collection of Beatrix Potter books which were favorites of mine as a child.
The film was lovely and I thoroughly enjoyed it - as did my 5 year old son and grandmother. Definately one for all of the family!

This DVD is truly enchanting. I would recommend it for a girly night in, for children, but possibly not for the man in your life. It is beautifully acted, and the animations had me almost believing they were alive. The director portrayed the characters in the story with great sensativity, and showed the countryside to the watcher, making me wish I was there. The story unfolds, and I never took my eyes from the screen once, I really wished I had seen it at the pictures,on a large screen, but I would tell any one to buy and watch this delightful film, and watch it over and over again. I am sure that every time they will see something or some detail that they missed previously. A 5star film, from start to finish, and you do need a kleenex to hand!

I knew next to nothing about Beatrix Potter but, after seeing a much interupted showing on television, I became interested in the lady. I must admit that having the great Renee Zellweger as Miss Potter made me decide to buy a copy for my collection. What a great actress (sorry, I know I am suppossed to say actor now, but it does not seem right to me somehow), Renee Zellweger never lets me down. This film is beautifully shot, superbly acted and a delight to watch. Oh, I nearly forgot, I know a great deal more about Beatrix Potter now as well (your never to old to learn).

I have recently viewed this film on ITV and was so impressed with it that not long after i purchased the DVD.
After having many Beatrix Potter books as a child i was very interested in the story behind those books and what a wonderful story it was. I never realised what a life Beatrix Potter had led and this films tells all of her sorrows, trials and the wonderful moments of her life. Renee Zellweger also plays the part perfectly.

I saw this film at the cinema and loved it so much that I decided to buy the film then I can watch it whenever the mood takes me.
Its just one off those films that you can loose yourself in. Fantastic scenery too!!! Just takes you to one of those nice places!!!!

This was an enchanting and delightful film - definitely for female viewers, although young male children would probably enjoy it as well. The acting was
excellent and the whole experience of watching it left you with a feel-good happy sensation. I would definitely recommend it.

have not received the dvd although postal order made out to williams was posted straight away. then i noticed on ebay that in red was indicated that this seller was not now reconised by ebay, so i quess that i will never get it and easier to go out and buy it in a shop

I think this has to be my bargain of the year, if not longer. The DVD was exactly the same as those in any of the high street shops, the same photo of Renee Zelleweger on the front in costume, the same writing. To watch the film is identical to that on the screen, I saw it at the cinema so I know. The only difference is that it didn't have a case, but that's no hardship and even makes it easier to store. Delivery times match Amazon, queries were dealt with helpfully, what more could we want?

Also I have a little boy who very much loves animals and has the Beautrice Potter collection of Peter Rabbit and his friends.
This is a very entertaining film, it has it's sad side and funny side. As well as a few small tugs at the heart strings.
I'm really glad that I went with my judgement and purchased this film as I would have missed out had I have not seen it and so would've my son.

A good mixture of drama, romance and animation. A excellent example of how women struggled to have their voice heard in Edwardian England.
This film shows, how the vision and foresight of one woman helped to save, and encouraged others to save, some of the United Kingdoms greatest natural treasures by establishing the National Trust.
Watch it and love it.

This was ok...ok-ish.
I thought that more could have been done with this film. Rene just was'nt right for the part and her accent was dreadful - they made a well brought up lady appear rather wierd with a half plum in the mouth half farmery accent with the way she raored some of her words out.
They had her talking to pictures and drawings which was a little out there for my liking.
I do like period dramas immensely but this wasnt up to scratch at all.
It did have its sad moments like when her fiance died but other than that it wasnt gripping at all.
Its a film you watch once and then stick in the cupboard and forget about.

Miss Potter dvd is the enchanting story of Beatrice Potter's life. Set in London and The Lake District, it tells the story of a how the young Beatrice Potter grew up to be the well known and well-loved author. It tells of her struggle, in London, when women were not encourage to do anything, but to marry, have children and to keep home for husband and family. A time when social class mattered more than family.
The main theme of the story of her life, is the artist and storyteller within. But it also has depth, because it shows life within her social class, her relationship with her parents, a close friendship with a female friend, and also the blossom of romance and love.
This is an engaging film, suitable for all the family. Well worth watching. If you don't see it, you will be missing out.
