The sad departure of Michael Jackson recently has made me take a retrospective look at the body of work that he has left as a legacy.

Bad is without doubt a fantastic album. The strength and timeless and melody of almost every track is evidence of the relevance of his title as 'King of Pop'. Smooth Criminal is undoubtedly the albums highlight with its fantastic gangster undertones played out by a dancing bass line, complimented by typically frenzied chorus backing vocals - if this doesn't get you moving and grooving nothing will. Smooth Criminal is bookended by stand out tracks Dirty Diana (with its simple yet effective two word refrain for a chorus) and the punchy 'Leave me alone' stab at the intrusive media interest in Jackson's life in the 80's.

The title track must have the cheesiest backing vocals ever recorded, but it only adds to the listening experience of an album that does not feel over 20 yeas old.

For those new to Michale Jackson - probably a good starting point, and for anyone a must have album in your collection.
