Album Notes
ALL ROADS LEAD TO SALTZBURG contains live tracks, improvisational pieces, BBC sessions, and new recordings.Mice Parade includes: Dylan Cristy, Adam Pierce, Doug Scharin, Marc Wolf, Doro Tachler, Rob King.Technically, ALL ROADS LEAD TO SALZBURG is constructed from something of a patchwork; live recordings; radio sessions, etc. Listening to the album as a whole, though, it feels much more cohesive than that might lead you to believe. If anything, the off-the-cuff nature of some of the tracks allows the listener to hear the growth of the group's sound. Where past efforts tended toward Tortoise-like percussion collages, the expanded sonic palette here (including Chinese zither, classical guitar, and violin) takes the Mice Parade sound into new territory. There's a jazzier element at work on some of the tracks, and a feeling of continuously unfolding adventures, rather than variations on a minimalistic motif. Perhaps most striking is the blend between organic, acoustic textures and electronically generated and/or processed tones, which allows Mice Parade to venture into naturalism and futurism simultaneously.
