i bought this film cause my daughter is studying it at schoolin GCSE English and I now 37 yrs remember studying it, and never had the film out so had to just read the book. So for nestalger reasons had to see it, it was very well done, even my 7 year old loved it ...but keeps reminding me about the last scene where the 'cousin' kills Kenny!!!! i forgot that bit was there. Also i have an older sister who has learning disabilities and the film when i read it growing up reminded me of 'our' life to some degree. having to protect her. She also squashed our hamster till one eye was hanging out. She had tremendous strength, when ever she cuddled me she used to hurt me, she is very loving but too strong, she has got better. So ifelt real compassion for both characters. Even though i know the two main charecters were not related, it was if they were.
A very moving story, it really makes you think about persons with that type of disabilities, and that even Kenny had his place in this world, he was the best at manual work and was recognised by his employer. So just cause the less fortunate may not have the same life as us, sometimes its leass complicated and happier.
Makes you think
