This is the sound of Anger

I first heard snippets of this at Donnington a few years ago. it struck me as the sound of a once awesome band that had lost it's way and was following the "down-tuned, no solo's" route of all the rubbish nu-metal stuff out at the time.

After watching "some kind of monster" it's easy to see why this album sounds so furious.
Not since Pantera's "far beyond driven" have I heard an album of such brooding intent.

I love Metallica, seen them more times than have had hot dinners, grew up with Master / Ride / And justice as the background to my early teens. After load / Reload, which for any other band would be awesome albums I was a bit hesitant with this album.

It does drag on a bit in places but once you cut through that if you want to listen to something when your in a bad mood this sums it up perfectly.

  Shame on you

Metallica were one of of the greatest bands of the 80's. Were as 20 years ago. They have since spent the last 15 years, living off of a reputation that they no longer deserve, if this steaming pile of corporate manure is anything to go by. This album is truly, truly awful. This is the equivalent of your middle aged dad, at a party, trying to impress teenage girls, by doing the robot. Hang your heads in shame.

Metallica are without doubt one of the biggest and most influential bands on the planet. St. Anger is another album in a catalogue of masterpieces, a must for any rock or Metallica fan!

  Good but not great
Review created: 05/08/09

in my opinion this album is good due to the fact that it is something different from the norm. This may not be everyone's favourite metallica album but it contains some great songs (frantic and st.anger to name two). some not so great moments like the intros of 'my world' and 'st.anger' sounding very similar. but overall quite good

a band has the right to try different things, but this repetitive, whiney and terrible sounding piece of work, is one of the worst sounding things ive heard in my entire life. Lars needs to sort out his snare, it dosent sound cool, its just annoying, and james is so whiney its just discusting. To listen to 'sweet amber' realise this is the man who created 'master of puppets' is absaloutly sickening. thumbs down from me
