Its Metallica at their best, and features the greatest song of all time IMO, Fade To Black. Its such a beautifully written, emotional song, and features some of my favourite guitar sections ever. The other songs on the album are also awesome, especially the title track, a great song about the electric chair, Creeping Death, which features a great solo, and For Whom The Bell Tolls, which is another amazing track. All the other tracks are also fantastic, although Call of the Ktulu is not as good as Orion, and there are definitely no weak songs on this album.

I have owned this album on vinyl since it was 1st released and am now in the process of getting them on all cd. An already excellent record sounds so much better converted to cd. From the opening of 'Fight Fire With Fire' to the ending of 'Creeping Death' you are taken back to when Metallica were one of the top bands of the eighties. You can still hear Dave Mustaine's influence in some of the songs before he was replaced by the guitar legeng Kirk Hammett. Along with Cliff, James and Lars they made a great leap forwards in sound to follow up their 'Kill Em All' album.
My favourite song on the cd is 'Fade To Black' with the only bad thing being the instumental 'The Call Of The Ktulu'. With 'Ride The Lightning', 'Creeping Death' and 'For Whom The Bell Tolls' also on the album the best thing you can do is put the cd in the slot and play it LOUD!!

This is easily one of Metallica's best albums, I'd say the counterpart to Megadeth's "Rust In Piece".
All the songs show the bands prowess and stardom in the world of metal, though the intros on some songs can be slightly annoying, like on "Fight Fire with Fire".
And, for fans of Megadeth like myself, Dave Mustaine helped to write two songs; the enegmatic title track, "Ride The Lightning", and the closing instrumental, "The Call Of Ktulu", which bears a striking a resembalence to Megadeth's ever famous "Hangar 18".
I would recommend any metal fans buy this.
9/10.

Not as good as Master of Puppets but still an essential thrash purchase. Fade to Black demonstrates the direction Metallica were set to take in the future while Creeping Death and For Whom The Bell Tolls are thrash anthems. If you haven't got it get it.

It was with some excitement that I opened my newly purchased Ride The Lightning by Metallica. Having owned this on vinyl since new and seen Metallica on their first four major UK tours - yeah remember the double header with Anthrax - those were the days! I have been disappointed in the past with initial CD transfers by Phonogram - ...And Justice For All's first CD release was diabollicaly poorly mastered compared to the vinyl release (yup got that too). Record companies haste to chuck things out on CD produced some horrors. This one aint too bad but lacks the depth of the original vinyl release.

But that didn't stop the hairs from rising on the back of my neck revisiting the greatest material Metallica ever played (OK Master of Puppets is close but this feels like a band who are growing into something great and the energy and enthusiasm is evident in all the material).

My dream would come true if the record companies remastered their whole catalogue. Now that would be good...

  A good service

The condition was perfect but the CD case was broken in one corner. Other than that no problems. I wanted to buy it because I love metallica's music and only had old cassettes, so I wanted to update my CD records.

If you like Metallica buy this, Master of Puppets, and The Black Album. Thats it. Download a few tracks of the others, but these are the only Metallica albums you need

  Metallica, Ride the Lightning 1989
Review created: 06/01/09

I was first exposed to hard rock when i was perhaps 14 or 15 years old by means of a tape recording that had this albumn on one side and AC/DC's Highway to Hell on the other side.
I have never looked back.
I bought the new Metallica albumn Death Magnetic a few months ago and was again blown away by the band, especially after the horrendous albumn St Anger they released a few years back.Ride the Lightning is simply one of the best they have done and so i have now upgraded from my twenty year old cassette tape which sadly died on me recently nad now am the proud owner of a shiny new CD.
BUY THIS ONE ITS AMAZING

What can you say other than its where it started, the sound is so different from the modern day,but so good, its what drew millions of sales and thousands of fans to love the Band. Was at the O2 in London last night and the guys blew the place apart, I love the way they appreciate everysingle person who comes out and supports them, and i have to ageree with James opening statement " put away your cameras and phones, this is a party, no one is getting famous putting METALLICA on you-tube" heres to another 28 years....

After Kill Em All, Metallica show us the future...
Review created: 06/06/08

"Kill Em All" was one hell of a debut - but Ride The Lightning shows just how seriously the band were taking their music - and gave Heavy metal a whole new direction!! Yes, it was that dramatic, released at a time when Bon Jovi were "Living On Prayer" and Europe's "Final Countdown" was number one. While I like both of them, this was far more REAL.

No longer was it all a case of just "Harder/Faster", power could still come from a ballad - hence Fade To Black! Yes, there was still intense power from the faster numbers (Fight Fire With Fire, Ride The Lightning etc) but, in hindsight, what shows above all else is the quality of the songs - something the band appeared to have forgotten about by the time of St Anger!!

A cracking album every serious metal fan should have in their collection - and I now have the CD copy to accompany my LP!

Metallica? What can I say? My favourite band! This is an excellent album, although I do prefer their black album. Check out the For Whom The Bell Tolls track on this album, though - it's a killer! (uh, I think there may be a pun in there somewhere?)
