Joan Of Arc: The Messenger
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.
Milla J is enigmatic as the young Joan, playing the balance of naive child (look out for a scene in which she argues with a soldier over the right to take a man's teeth) and the determined servant of God and her country perfectly. The movie is shot beautifully and the battle scenes are as breathtaking and gritty as everyone claims them to be. Dustin Hoffman's appearance as Joan's comical but oddly calming conscience is a fantastic touch. You watch this film and you just believe the desperation that the French felt in wanting to be free of the evil English; every one-scene soldier, every bit-part person shows true emotion. The cast is perfect, the scenes are shot perfectly and while Joan's apparant loss of grip on her sanity become slightly trying towards the end, Milla plays the part beautifully. An excellent buy.
