Merlin (DVD 2002)

This was a wonderful new insight into the Arthur story that I had seen a few years ago on ITV. I had been looking for it in the shops and couldn't find it so I came to ebay. Watching it many years later it was quite different to how I rememebered it, because it wasn't quite as dark, but it still had that magic to the story that all stories about Merlin should. There are some twists to this tale, but you will have to watch it find out what they are!
What a great buy and the seller sent it to me in a very fast time as well as it being very well packaged.

This DVD shows the two part Channel 4 series regarding the myth and legends surrounding Britain's most famous wizard Merlin. The producers really pulled out all the stops with a star studded cast Including Sam Niell, John Geilgud ,Helen Bonham Carter and Rutger Hauer. Those who have watched other Merlin and Arthur stories will see many similarities and differences in the storyline between this and other such offerings. This does not however detract from the enjoyment value of this TV mini epic series. The film is very well produced,cast,located, acted and costumed but not spoiled by too many special effects, just sufficient to narrate the tale. The writers have obviously done some considerable research into the legends and the life and times of contemporary Britons, which cannot have been easy,considering no one really know at what date this is supposed to be set.However the film gives its viewers plenty to thinkabout and enjoy.

An interesting slant on Arthurian legends. Merlin was the wizard to the court of Camelot according to the myth. The film is well-cast and well-presented, although special effects are fairly primitive and do tend to detract from the realism. I enjoy the general aethos, including the costumes and the realism of the film, as well as the fantasy and mystical aspect. Generally, a really worthwhile purchase.

I loved this series when it was on TV, and wanted to replace my video which would soon become obselete. I was delighted to find a DVD version on ebay, and was pleased with Delivery speed and packaging of this item when it arrived.

For those of you whom are fans of fantasy and the lore of Arthur and Merlin, you'll be pleased with this (although considerably outdated in terms of direction and production) representation of a classic tale. Sticking quite firmly to the original legend this is a worthwhile purchase if you want a light hearted film. It it's not earthshattering in terms of acting and special effects but it does a good job of adapting the original Arthurian legend. Quite entertaining and a good escape from everyday life.
