Still a great film, but not as good as the first

In my eyes, Ben Stiller can do no wrong - whilst I wasn't that keen on Zoolander (see my review) it still outshines most modern comedies today. Meet the Fockers is another gem from the guys who brought you Meet the Parents (and yes Owen Wilson does cameo - yey!). Once again, Stiller and DeNiro are superb, and whilst in the first film, the female relations essentially propped up scenes, this time we get Barabara Streisand who is superb. I've not seen her in any other films, but my parents think she's great, and I really agree. She definitely has a penchant for comedy and her on screen rapport with Hoffman is superb. Hoffman himself is also a class act and sooooo funny from the minute you see him (doing some sort of Tai Chi in the garden) to the very end. Where this film suffers, is that it has taken the same approach as the first, and it feels a little repetitive for this. New characters can only be relied upon to keep the film going for so long, then you need actual storyline. I still loved it anyway, but its at least a star less than Meet the Parents for the lack of originality (can you have an original sequel?). Very much look forward to Meet the Parents 3 - apparently entitled Meet the Little Focker (please please please don't let it be a remake of Three Men and a Baby).

At Last - A Focking Great Comedy Sequel!!
Review created: 14/10/05
3 of 5 people found this review helpful.

After sequels to Star Wars, Batman, and The Matrix, you were probably thinking why the fock should I bother to buy another sequel DVD or go to watch another sequel at the cinema, and with comedies this has typically be even more true - just think of how you felt when you thought Robin Williams announced he was doing a sequel to Flubber. Well, here is one to prove you wrong. Meet the Fockers is one of the few comedy sequels that delivers.

Stiller, de Niro (back to his best after the comedy-come-film noir Rocky and Bullwinkle), Hoffman (still looking for second base), Streisand (as Mother Focker) are all on tip top form. If you remember Stiller in the first movie he brings all of his puppy-dog innocence to this flick, and of course his deadpan comic style which gels beatifully with the old Streisand slapstick which has not be seen since the late 80s. With Hoffman and De Niro going at it head to head as the two fathers you also get that same feeling as you got when you saw de Niro and Pacino together for the first time on screen in Heat - momentous cinematic moments, but this time you can laugh at the same time!! There is no heat around the corner with this one folks, just a lot of great laughs for all the family, and some for just you (and not the kids!) to enjoy.

  Meet The Fockers

This DVD, in my opinion, has to be the greatest comedy I have ever seen (appart from some individual stand-up comediens).
Was a little slow to start with, but as the film got underway, my husband and I were in constant laughter, floods of humurous tears and of course the face and tummy ache soon set in!!
All the actors and actresses work extremely well together. Even those who you might think should stick to their best forte of singing.
What an excellent result of a film. Best comedy ever!!!!!!

And you thought your parents were embarrassing.

Domestic disaster looms for male nurse 'Greg' Focker (Stiller) when his straight-laced, ex-CIA father-in-law (De Niro) asks to meet his wildly unconventional mom (Streisand) and dad (Hoffman). It's family bonding gone hysterically haywire in this must-see comedy!

SOOOOOOOOOOO FUNNY

I like meet the parents but i think this one is far better

  Circle Of Trust?
Review created: 26/11/06
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Ben Stiller is fantastic again as Greg Focker who is still suffering at the hands of his future father in law who is played by Robert De Niro. Jack ( Niro) decides to drive to Florida in his fancy RV to meet Greg's parents to talk about the wedding plans. Dina , Jack's wife ( Blythe Danner) goes along too for the ride with Greg and her daughter. Dustin Hoffman plays Bernie Focker and Barbara Streisand is his wife, Roz. When the parents meet up, the laughs begin. Bernie and Roz are very open and laid back and Jack is shocked by their lifestyle. Greg cannot keep in the circle of trust as usual and Jack has both eyes on him. The movie has plenty of good laughs and I really enjoyed Hoffman in it. If you enjoyed the first film" Meet The Parents" , you will like this. Worth watching.

Meet the Fockers is even funnier than Meet The Parents! Just when you didn't think it could be any weirder, the tables are turned and the families are about to collide with Ben Stiller still having to run around keeping up appearances. This time, however, he has more to hide... his family's weirdness! Great fun, De Niro is marvelous still and the film is a laugh a minute.

It was mildly funny; the baby was the star! It was recommended by friends is why I bought it. You say I have to write at least 100 characters for my review - it wasn't worth that many characters! Does THAT satisfy your rules, eBay?

  Lots of Laughs
Review created: 13/11/08

I love this DVD and had to have it in my collection. It has you laughing for most of the film, some of the comedy is subtle and some is not but it works well. The mixture of the 'big' names work really well with Dustin Hoffman bouncing off of Robert De Niro brilliantly with their personalities being so very different from one another. Barbara Streisand is fantastic and of course Ben Stiller is just brilliant as Gaylord Focker! It really does highlight the stress and absolute agony of the in laws meeting the in laws in quite a realistic way although stretching it to the limit of course! If you want to have a good laugh for a hour or so, then this is the one to watch! I would say even better than 'Meet the Parents' which is a gem in itself!

This is just such a wonderful film if you really need something to cheer you up and make you laugh uncontrollably!
The characters are brilliant, especially that little kid, if you can keep a straight face to that film you might want to see a specialist.
