Mean Machine (DVD 2002)

Vinnie Jones is Danny "Mean Machine" Meehan, former star soccer player, who was once hired to promote the sports goods of first-rate company Umbro. But now drunk and disgraced, he is in jail, doing his time of three-year sentence. But the governor there, himself deep in debt, wants him to go back to the game (between wards and prisoners), AND lose it on purpose, just like Danny did in the international match between England and Germany.
Sounds familiar? Sure, the film's opening credits show that "Mean Machine" is actually based on Burt Reynolds's film "The Longest Yard." You may say, or groan, "Not again!," but be assured, this new one is surprisingly good, considering that Vinnie Jones's career as actor has just got started. And his fans, be proud; though he may not be nominated for BAFTA awards, his turn as the first-time lead is really good, and convincing.

The virtue of "Mean Machine" is that the film looks very authentic. That's no surprise, you say, because Vinnie Jones was a professional soccer player, but keep in mind that he had to shape up his body again to fit in the role as it has been pretty long since he had retired. As I'm a huge soccer fan, and watch Euporean games live on cable TV in Japan, I can tell you this, but the players of "Mean Machine" team are good at playing soccer, and the most remarkable thing is that they play so well that their movements in the game is authentic (except for the goal keeper, who likes keep the ball too much), and look very real, if not as good as those you see in English Premier games. On top of that, most scenes are shot in real prison, The Oxford Prison, now disused for years.

Got this Dvd for £1.20 and couldn't resist it for that price. I've got a big collection of dvd's. I saw this a while ago and remember it being ok to watch.

i thought that thi dvd was in very good condition and i happy with this dvd. i am also happy with this dvd cause i am collecting jason statham films cause i think he is ace.

it is just a real good film to watch so that is why i did buy it i not in to football but this film is real good to watch and it is funny in some places as well

i decided to buy it because i have been nickname the monk at my footbal club because they say i act like him in net and look a bit like him too so i really wanted to see the film and see what everyone means! all i know is that hes a mentalist

Classic Film. British Movies at there best~ I love Vinnie Jones he's a quality actor and love all of his films

I know I cant stand football but hey not everyones cup of tea as they say, but this film is brilliant. I have seen the american version of the book and even though its based on the same film they are slightly different. All the actors especially Vinnie Jones and Jason Stathamáre fantastic in there portrail of the characters.
If your a soccer fan or Jason Statham fan this is a must see and one to add to your collection, Very easy to watch and entertaining too.

my huband loves this film espesh as bout main intrest football lol but i have seen myself and have to say its a great film not just because of all the men but is good i like the story line

its a very funny film and i like most of the characters in it. big vinny jones plays his part well, as does jason strathom and danny dyer

its a ok film not some thing i wood realy go for my self but my husband said it woz good

this a proper British movie, good dark humor, the fight scenes are brilliant they are really funny, but the match at the end of the film is just pure comedy. great buy, really recommend it

Vinnie Jones is playing at his best-the hard man routine suits him down to the ground. Fantastic fun.

i loved every second of it vinny jones is such a brilliant actor and so is danny dyer they are both so funny and i will watch it over and over again

Very funny film, not for the little ones. This film has been copied by several other film makers and I've seen them all this ones the best of them. Story=Disgraced footie star sent to prison is talked into a game agains gards he struggles to get a team to play and nearly blows the whole thing. Its a cheaters never prosper film. Vinnie, is great in the film. I bought it for my partner because every time it was on the telly he watched it now he can watch when he wants. Bad point lots of bad language and violance but it wouldn't be the same without it.

was delivered very quickly and in excellent condition. Thedvd was excellent quailty and it is a very funny film

i really like films like this , so this was pretty good , untill it got a bit boring at the end, but if you love football , you'll like ending as well, lots of swearing. so i rated it 4/5

Great film, none of the girly american one where in my opinion Sadler doesnt pull off the main role too well! Vinnie plays the part like a legend! All the supporting cast work well and its just an amazingly good football film! If its raining outside and you cant be bothered moving order a pizza and watch this. Quality

exellent film! a lot of laughter, drama and football!!! acting is great and i would extremely recommend watching the longest yard after this!!!
