Description
Every year the two rival pubs in the small Scottish town of Inverdoune battle in a soccer match, and for 99 years in a row the team representing Benny's Bar has lost to the snobs from Le Bistro. But this year, thanks to an ancient wager, the winner of the game will get to shut down the opposing pub. Only Wullie, the local milkman with an encyclopedic knowledge of the game, can save the day. Meanwhile, Wullie has his heart set on winning Rosemary, the local farmer's daughter. A sweet romantic sports comedy, similar to THE FULL MONTY and WAKING NED DEVINE.

Editorial Reviews
"...THE MATCH manages to forge a delightful identity of its own, distinguishing itself with homespun charm, savvy writing and the most colorful cast of Anglo-Gaelic characters since THE FULL MONTY..."

This is a fantastic film set in a fictional location in the Scottish Highlands. Basically it is about two pub teams and a historic rivalry based on a game of football. Benny's bar are really the "good guys", but are crap at football. L'Bistro is the posh upper class pub, but they are the "bad guys". The teams have played 99 games in a row, and if they loose the 100th game, they also loose the pub, and their livelihood. This film does have a lot of bad write ups, but I think it is a brilliant film. Simple, yes. Predictable, yes. But still a great film.
