Album Notes MASTER OF PUPPETS was Metallica's last album with bass player Cliff Burton. Burton was killed in a traffic accident. He was replaced by Jason Newsted.Metallica: James Hetfield (vocals, guitar); Kirk Hammett (guitar); Cliff Burton (bass); Lars Ulrich (drums).Recorded at Sweet Silence Studios, Copenhagen, Denmark from September through December, 1985.Metallica's irresistible rise to the top continued with this enigmatic 1986 album. A constant touring unit by this point, their combination of light and dark and their deft staccato delivery, especially on the title track, came brusquely through. Their ever-lengthening arrangements (three songs came in at over eight minutes), bolstered by the precise snap of Hetfield's vocals, testified to their undeniable power. The striding "Battery," the darkly lit "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)," as well as the complex instrumental, "Orion," all gave powerful testament to their ever-developing skill and vision. I have not long been back from Download 2006 and after seeing Metallica on the Saturday night I thought I had died and gone to heaven as they were so amazing and had everyone watching, they were proberly the best band there and they played this whole album live, which hundreds of people I talked to there and many thousands of people all over the world believe this to be the best album of all time. Great rifts and awsum guitar solos make this a must own CD, no matter what the cost. Review ID: 10000000001188456 Was this review helpful? Report this review Reviews Quite simply one of the best metal albums ever. I bought this on CD when it was released in 1986 and also saw them on the Master of Puppets Tour in Bradford in the UK in 1986. Truly incredible live. This CD is about as complete an album as you are likely to find anywhere. It has everything you want from a metal album, from rapid fire guitar solos to deep, powerful riffs to booming baselines. The lyrics superbly enhance the music and represent James Hetfield at his best. Most people know all about Metallica but for those who don't you can't and won't be disappointed in this compilation of hits. Every track is an 'A' side and this is not a cd where you will skip the odd track because it's not quite so good. At their recent gigs this album has featured heavily despite it's age and the massive range of newer stuff because it remains some of their best music. That also means, therefore, that it is some of the best stuff ever produced by anyone in the metal business. No matter how many times I have heard this cd I still could listen to it one more time. In conclusion if you only ever buy 1 metal cd in your life make it this one! It won't let you down. I'd recommend seeing them in concert as soon a s possible as well as they still play this and it's even better live! Enjoy! Review ID: 10000000005191666 Was this review helpful? Report this review |
